Situated in the picturesque village of Crayke less than 14 miles north of York. History scholars believe the village to be the spot where the Grand Old Duke of York Marched his Men to the Top of Hill, the village commands wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. There's a lovely circular walk which takes in all the joys of the surrounding area.

The village is a charming little place, very typical of those found in this area of Yorkshire. Perfectly positioned to visit the very best of North Yorkshire, the cottage sits in an area called the Howardian Hills. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1987, this land of lush pastures and woodlands plays host to grand country houses, atmospheric ruins and handsome market towns. There is also a great selection of fine dining establishments in and around Crayke that are well worth booking a table at during your holiday.

If walking is your thing there are lots of beautiful walks in the area, some right from the doorstep. And if you fancy some serious hiking the North York Moors landscape offers some of the best walking in the country. Take a trip up to the top of the high moorlands around Blakey Ridge and breathe in that clear Yorkshire air.

Charming little cottage in beautiful surroundings. It is very peaceful, a great place to relax and de-stress. We were made very welcome by Lesley and especially enjoyed the welcome basket which provided, not only some essentials, but some lovely treats as well. There was also a drawer full of useful brochures suggesting places to visit. The cottageRead more itself is small but has everything we needed for our short break and there is extra storage space for cases etc in the attached garage. Sitting in the evening, after a day walking on the moors or Sutton Bank, on our private decking overlooking the beautiful garden was simply idyllic and the bedroom, surprisingly large with a king-sized bed and plenty of storage, was very comfortable. We loved the little extra touches such as fresh flowers and a "sleep" spray in the bedroom. Apart from an excellent country inn, The Durham Ox (a moment's walk away at the bottom of the lane - highly recommend a visit), there is not much in Crayke itself but Easingwold is 5 minutes drive away and has a range of coffee shops, pubs, 2 supermarkets, a pharmacy etc and a visitor information centre. All in all we had a very enjoyable 7 night stay - many thanks, Lesley Hide
