The cottage is set in the lovely estate village of Hotham in the Yorkshire Wolds. Typical of many of the villages in this area, Hotham is set right beside a grand country estate with acres of traditional English parkland to explore. It's perfect if you want to take your bike out or fancy a conker collecting expedition with the little ones in the autumn months.

There is a few excellent gastro pubs nearby if you enjoy dining out, all affording you a very warm welcome. We love the open fires and candlelit ambiance that characterise most good North Yorkshire pubs. For self-catering options, we recommend a trip to Drewton’s Farm Shop, just a mile or so from the cottage. Stock up on the finest Yorkshire produce here, from excellent local beef to the most amazing pies and cakes. There is also a very good cafe here which is open seven days a week.

Hotham is an ideal base from which to explore all that this area has to offer. The beautiful city of Beverley (11.5 miles) is an easy drive from the cottage. Explore the stunning Beverley Minster before indulging in a spot of shopping around its lively cobbled squares. And beyond the town, get to know the gorgeous Yorkshire Wolds, a range of low rolling hills rising from the River Humber and sweeping along to the stunning faraway cliffs at Flamborough Head. The gentle nature of the countryside here makes it an excellent location for walking and cycling. The Wolds are also home to many historical homes and religious sites as well as one of Yorkshire's largest lavender gardens.

For trips further afield, the Yorkshire Coast, North York Moors and beautiful city of York are also all within easy driving distance from the property and make for a great day trip.

With a varied landscape of windswept dales, heather-clad moors and dramatic coast, interspersed with picturesque towns and villages, vibrant cities and a rich historical heritage, Yorkshire is rightly considered one of Britain's premier holiday destinations. Known as 'God's Own County', Yorkshire has nearly one-third of England's National Parkland, two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and three sections of coastline designated as Heritage Coast.

Offering infinite opportunities for lovers of the great outdoors, the wild expanse of the Yorkshire Dales National Park in North and West Yorkshire is a glorious mix of awe-inspiring scenery, imposing castles, characterful Dales' villages and drystone walls. While to the east, the North York Moors National Park offers atmospheric moorland, fragrant pine forests and charming towns tucked away within steep-sloped valleys. Extending all the way to the Yorkshire Coast, you can even experience a traditional day at the seaside at popular resorts including Whitby, Flamborough and Scarborough. It's a beautiful terrain to explore.

A visit to the historical city of York is a must. Renowned for its medieval architecture, the magnificent York Minster and a myriad of museums, independent shops and exceptional eateries, you will not be disappointed. Then there's the chalk landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds, known to have inspired David Hockney. And with a packed calendar of events and festivals each year, including the Malton Food Festival, the Tour de Yorkshire and the Great Yorkshire Show, there's always something exciting to enjoy.

Our holiday cottages in Yorkshire are handpicked to ensure a luxurious and uniquely memorable experience. From dog-friendly cottages in the country to large family houses by the sea and romantic retreats in the city, we have a holiday in Yorkshire to suit everyone.
