Head off to the spectacular Holme Valley and treat yourself to a stay in this beautiful apartment which captures the full glory of its surroundings. Gaze out of the windows and lose yourselves in the undulating, rural views of this corner of West Yorkshire or head out to explore the scenic setting on foot or by bicycle.

This two-bedroom apartment, in the village of Meltham, sits right on the edge of the Peak District National Park and is within reach of the Colne Valley, about 2.5 miles away, and Marsden Moor, 4 miles away. This is a 5,500-acre National Trust estate, which is crossed by the Pennine Way. Find myriad other footpaths to follow too; go wildlife watching and immerse yourselves in the stunning panoramas of this impressive Yorkshire landscape.

Sleeping four people, and ideal for two couples keen to escape together, this holiday apartment is located adjacent to the owners’ friendly real ale pub, within the small town, which is also home to other pubs and shops, as well as a golf course. It is just 4 miles from picturesque Holmfirth, known for its appearances on TV as a backdrop to scenes from Last of the Summer Wine. One happy hound is also very welcome here and will find himself wagging his tail at the extent of dog walking routes on offer in the area.

Make your way into the stone building through the shared entrance on the ground floor and climb the stairs up to the first floor. Open the front door into the holiday home and wander in to find yourselves in a bright and beautifully finished apartment providing sun-filled accommodation.

Discover an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner where you can relax, cook and dine together in style. Prepare tasty Yorkshire dishes in the kitchen area; dine together up at the breakfast bar then head over to the comfortable seating as the dishwasher takes care of the washing up. Those looking for a day out shopping in independent outlets or indoor leisure activities for a rainy day might like to venture into Halifax, 5 miles away, where an afternoon or two can easily be whiled away. Huddersfield, about the same distance away, is also worth a visit when holidaying in Meltham. Browse the shops here, book a table in a restaurant and visit museums and art galleries. There are often festivals and one-off events taking place in Huddersfield so it would well be worth timing your trip.

Halifax is a thriving market town and was once the centre of the wool trade in Victorian England, which blessed the town with wealth and good fortune. Many of the opulent buildings and monuments from this time can still be seen as you walk around the town, including Piece Hall, a magnificent Georgian building, which was once the place where weavers sold their cloth. Nowadays, it’s a fabulous place to grab a tasty bite to eat or peruse the independent shops and boutiques, as well as catch some outdoor performances.

Other impressive buildings include Halifax Minster, the town’s gothic church; the Grade II-listed Halifax Town Hall, created by the same man who designed the Houses of Parliament; and Shibden Hall, a 15th-century historic home surrounded by a glorious park, once home to the ‘first modern lesbian’, Anne Lister, who wrote her secret diaries there. The parkland is an excellent place to spend a day, where you can walk beside the pretty flowerbeds, row across the Mere or ride on the miniature train which will delight any children in your party. Kids will also love Eureka! The National Children’s Museum, which is sure to capture their imaginations with its 400 interactive exhibits.

If you enjoy food, make sure to visit Halifax’s Borough Market, which is a stunning Grade II-listed building hosting an award-winning covered market throughout the week. Sample some local produce and pick up a selection of tasty treats to enjoy back at your holiday home and to help you prepare some traditional Yorkshire fare.

A superb apartment which is a real home from home. Everything we needed was provided and we were so comfortable there. The owners were on hand if we needed anything and even checked to ensure we were warm enough when the temperature dropped during our stay. The apartment is close to local amentites as well as being close to some amazing walks.

My stay at Cop Hill View was wonderful! The apartment is excellent - tastefully decorated and furnished, comfortable, and very well equipped (although it did take me a while to find the cutlery drawer!) and the view out to the Moor is magnificent. But what made my stay especially good is how dog-friendly things are, from the outside wash, the towelRead mores at the front door, the welcome basket of treats for dogs (and their owners) to the friendly welcome in the Travellers Rest pub.
