This charming, converted barn, with beams throughout, provides the ideal space for a relaxing holiday that the whole family can enjoy.

Settle into a superb stay at this inviting Yorkshire holiday home, just 1.5 miles from the historic village of Stamford Bridge. Sleeping up to six people, the three-bedroom former barn could suit couples seeking to escape together or a family looking to explore the beautiful surroundings. Just 3.5 miles from the edge of the picturesque Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and set on a working farm, this gorgeous, single-storey conversion is perfectly positioned for those who are keen to get out and about in the fresh air, visit family attractions and even venture to the Yorkshire coast.

Take a 3-mile walk out to the Breezy Knees Garden, for example, to experience its 20 acres of glorious colour, with some 7,000 varieties of plants to see within exquisite settings. Take the children to the Northwood Trail, almost 2 miles away, where they can explore the fairy woods, play on the natural playground and join in any events taking place. Adults might like to spend time at the Yorkshire Air Museum, with its impressive collections, which is 7 miles away, or the National Trust’s Beningbrough Hall, 16 miles from the barn. This is an Italianate country house that nestles in 8 acres of enchanting grounds.

Stroll into the beautiful holiday home, which has been converted to feature vaulted ceilings with exposed timberwork. Retreat to the lounge after your long days out in the fresh air, then unwind, perhaps watch a film together or even play some games. Open the doors in here on warm days and wander outside if you choose. Amble on through to the kitchen/diner to make a fresh cup of tea. Cook dinner in here too and dine together at the table whenever you don’t feel like eating out.

All your bedrooms are convenient to access at this single-storey property. Choose between two king-size rooms and a twin. One king-size has an en-suite wet room, while the other has an en-suite shower room; those sleeping in the twin can luxuriate in the whirlpool bath in the family bathroom.

Bask out in the sunshine in your private patio area, where there is space to dine out, light the BBQ and relax with a glass of chilled wine. You are also very welcome to take the children to run about on the lawn in the shared garden. Plenty of parking is available with the holiday home and you can also store your bicycles securely.

Pack a picnic and venture into the North York Moors National Park for the day. This begins about 23 miles away and offers myriad footpaths and trails to follow through dramatic landscapes and fantastic scenery. While you are in this corner of Yorkshire, also consider planning a day trip to the coast. Visit the traditional seaside town of Bridlington, just under 30 miles away, with its sandy beaches and holiday attractions.

Within such easy reach of the barn, York is a fabulous place to explore. This ancient walled city has been the north’s spiritual capital for 2,000 years, but that’s not to say it is stuck in the past; York’s affluent population and its influx of tourist pounds has helped to create a cultural and commercial oasis. History seeps out of every cobbled street, but the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Everywhere in York is easily reachable by foot as this small but perfectly formed city houses most of its main attractions within the city walls. Middle Ages’ town planning means it can take quite some time to get your bearings but finding your way around the labyrinth of warped streets is part of the fun. Make sure you take in York Minster, the Shambles, the Railway Museum and Bettys tearoom whilst you're there.

If you are looking for outside space in which to relax, you have the choice of a number of parks and gardens, including Dean’s Park next to the Minster, the Yorkshire Museum Gardens next to the River Ouse and, slightly further afield, Rowntree Park with its children’s playground, tennis courts and bowling green.

And, what’s more, it really is a year-round location. Summer days can be spent lounging in one of the gorgeous parks and, in the autumn, York comes alive with shop windows sparkling in the dusky light. Its central location also makes a great base from which to explore the rest of glorious Yorkshire, with the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Yorkshire coastline all within easy reach for beautiful walks and adventurous days out.

Lovely, spacious accommodation. Very well equipped, warm and comfortable. Didn't get a chance to use the outside space as we picked a rainy week to stay! Visited York, hired bikes at Sutton Bank (hour drive), walked at Hole of Horcum (45 mins drive), and walked locally from the cottage as there are several possible routes. The accommodation is first class, the owners are very friendly and the welcome pack was most appreciated, the gardens are beautiful but unfortunately we were unable to take full advantage of them because the weather was rather inclement. The very narrow approach road to the accommodation is not ideal but if you drive slowly with caution you will beRead more fine. York is easily reached as is Beverley and both occupied a great deal of our time. Hide
