A beautiful three-bedroom holiday cottage set in the pretty village of Sleights, this is just minutes from Whitby and the Yorkshire Coast. You will love it for the cosy ambience, the breathtaking views of the Eskdale Valley from the glazed balcony and the gorgeous master bedroom with free-standing bath. It's the perfect luxury holiday cottage near the Yorkshire Coast.

From the moment you arrive you will get an immediate sense of its quality as the interior speaks volumes with its decoration and chunky oak furnishings. The accommodation is arranged over three floors in this fabulous cottage. On the ground floor there is an entrance hall and handy downstairs cloakroom. This leads onto a lovely open plan kitchen/dining area with a large family table at its heart. There's a solid granite work-top to prepare food on and the cupboards are well-stocked. Just beyond you'll find the sitting room where a cosy wood burning stove nestles under the inglenook fireplace. French doors lead out to a large private glazed balcony with patio furniture and stunning views of the Eskdale Valley below. Take your morning coffee here while the steam trains of the North York Moors Railway puff along on their way to Whitby (4.5 miles) and Pickering (17 miles) far below you. Contemporary entertainment is provided in the form of a TV, an iPod dock and iPad for guest's use, speakers, ceiling surround sound and a library of books, CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs.

The accommodation in Cowslip Cottage is set over the first and second floors. A King-size and a twin are located on the first floor, along with a family shower room and WC. The sumptuous king-size occupies the whole of the second floor and features an en-suite with a shower and WC, a gorgeous free-standing bath and amazing views of the valley below. All of the bedrooms have TVs, and bed linen and snuggly bath towels included.

The location of this superb holiday home is fantastic. Perched on the hillside of the beautiful Esk Valley in the village of Sleights, you could be hopping on a steam train at Grosmont or feeling the sand between your toes on Whitby's beach within minutes. Sleights is a peaceful little place with a scattering of shops and places to eat. Just along the road from the cottage you'll find a traditional and welcoming village pub with cask ales, hearty local food and a log fire to keep you warm and toasty in the colder months. And if you decide to eat in you can pick up some excellent local produce from the butcher and at the deli in the village.

If you are enjoying this luxury cottage near Whitby with children there is also a lovely play park a short walk away. A few miles east from the cottage takes you to the stunning North Yorkshire coastline, a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is proper bucket 'n spade territory. That's not to say it's stuck in the past, in fact the coast's villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars.

Although you could happily spend the weekend mooching about the independent shops, bars and cafes along Whitby's bustling medieval streets, it's well worth striking out to sample some of the other coastal villages nearby. Robin Hood's Bay (7.5 miles) is one of the most popular coastal locations in Yorkshire, or the UK for that matter. The village is a maze of cobbled streets and higgledy piggledy houses which seem to tumble down towards the sea. Staithes (13 miles) and Runswick Bay (11 miles) are also all within easy driving distance, each with their own unique charm.

Head west from the cottage and you can be in the heart of the North York Moors within minutes. Take a tour of the impossibly pretty towns and villages in the area, Egton, Danby, Castleton, Rosedale. Or head up on the high moorland of Castleton Rigg, we guarantee on a clear day it will take your breath away. Suffice to say this area is a walkers’ paradise and many suggested routes are provided for you in the cottage.

Having been on holiday in many cottages over the years, we were still surprised when we entered Cowslip Cottage. Quite simply, this is the best cottage we have ever stayed in. Everything and every detail had been thought of - the care the owners have put into the property is stunning. The views are breathtaking and the location is excellent. We havRead moree already booked for next year. Unfortunately, for personal reasons we had to cut our holiday short. Thank you Joe and Geoff for your kindness. Hide

Cowslip Cottage is beautifully presented, with wonderful views and excellent facilities. The time and consideration taken in making this wonderful cottage a relaxing and comfortable holiday home is obvious. I booked five days in January and enjoyed using Cowslip Cottage as base to explore the North York Moors visiting Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby, GoathRead moreland and Elton Bridge; all a stones throw from Cowslip Cottage. A wonderful break in a lovely location! The only slight drawback from our point of view was the late arrival time of 4.00pm and the early checkout time of 10.00am - but the high standards of cleanliness and presentation can only be maintained by hard work which obviously takes time. I would recommend anyone to stay at Cowslip, it was fantastic! Hide

The most beautiful holiday cottage! We have stayed at other "Gorgeous Cottages" properties so our expectations were high, however they were more than met at Cowslip Cottage. At this price you do expect a certain level of qualitity, however it was the little details that you don't expect (freshly baked bread on arrival, a welcome hamper including wiRead morene for us and a lovely welcome hamper for our doggy, Netflix and an i-pad with a sound system), that really make this an exceptional property. Joe & Geoff have clearly made a huge effort to ensure that their guests have everything they need for a perfect stay. We had a truly fantastic break and enjoyed our first trip of many (I hope) to this wonderful area of Yorkshire. You won't regret a booking here! Hide
