The location for this cottage is extra special, set down a quiet country lane on the outskirts of Ruswarp and a few miles from the gorgeous Yorkshire Coast. You have the best of both worlds here, peace and quiet (and parking right outside!) but with the delights of Whitby (2 miles) just a few minutes' drive away.

Ruswarp itself is a peaceful little place with a scattering of charming attractions and places to eat. Set on the River Esk you can hire rowing boats in the village and make your way peacefully along the water. Kids will love the miniature railway on the banks of the river here too. There's also a lovely waterside cafe which is perfect for an indulgent cream tea. A few miles north from the cottage takes you to the stunning North Yorkshire coastline, a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is proper bucket 'n spade territory. That's not to say it's stuck in the past, in fact the coast's villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars. This part of the region is best known for the gorgeously gothic town of Whitby. Playing host at one time to Romans, Saxons, Celts and Danes amongst others, the town's rich heritage is immediately obvious. Straddling the river Esk and dominated by the 13th century ruins of St Hilda's Abbey on the East Cliff, Whitby's crooked cobbled streets and picturesque harbour have been a magnet for artists and tourists alike for centuries.

Head inland from the cottage and you can be in the heart of the North York Moors within minutes. Take a tour of the impossibly pretty towns and villages in the area, Egton, Danby, Castleton, Rosedale. Or head up on the high moorland of Castleton Rigg, we guarantee on a clear day it will take your breath away.

Excellent Christmas break, Christmas tree was a nice surprise, absolutely loved it, very cosy, didn't want to leave.

the Cottage is up there with some of the best we have stayed in. Beautifully furnished with lovely comfortable beds. It is well equipped and immaculately clean.

The cottage was clean and fairly comfortable, the beds were good. However, I didn't feel comfortable with either the location or the access. It's in a remote spot, and access is up a very steep narrow hill (struggled to drive up it in first gear with a car full) then past a farm and down an even narrower lane, then onto a short unmade track to the Read morecottage. This should be made clear in the cottage description. Hide

Gorgeously renovated cottage to 'magazine ' standards. Very well equipped; they seem to have thought of almost everything. Great location for walkers, but we had to go everywhere in the car which is a bit awkward due to narrow lanes etc.

This cottage in a rural setting has everything you need. Improvements in the garden area are ongoing and will only enhance what is a delightful fully equipped cottage.

Beautiful cottage, tastefully decorated with ample space and all the mod cons. Great outside space although be careful with young ones in the outside step area. Brilliant location to Whitby and a nice sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the seaside. Owner incredibly helpful and accommodating. We loved it and will be back!

We had a fabulous family holiday at Cragg Cottage. A great deal of thought put in to make it a home from home. A lovely peaceful and relaxing location but near also to lots of places to see and go to for activities or lazy beach days .
