Tucked away on the owners' working farm, this cosy cottage provides the ideal base for a couple to explore all that this stunning part of Yorkshire has to offer.

Retreat to this inviting Yorkshire cottage for two, which sits on a working farm, just 1.5 miles from the village of Stamford Bridge, known for its famous battle of 1066. Sleeping just two guests, the delightful, one-bedroom abode is perfect for a couple seeking a romantic break together or simply time away from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives. Set approximately 3.5 miles from the edge of the spectacular Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the handsome, single-storey farm conversion is in an ideal location for those who enjoy walking, cycling and spending time in the great outdoors.

Plan walks and rides from the front door of the cottage. Try the 3-mile Stamford Bridge and the River Derwent Circular, for example, or the 10-mile, circular route, which takes you along the top of a viaduct. Venture further from home and drive out into the scenic York Moors National Park for the day. This begins about 23 miles away and offers a great choice of footpaths and cycle routes through all kinds of landscapes.

Wander into this welcoming holiday property to discover an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner that will quickly become the heart of the home while you are here. Take it easy in here after your exciting days out, find a film to enjoy together on the Smart TV and make plans for the following day. Prepare a tasty dinner for two in the kitchen area on those nights you feel like staying in, then dine together at the breakfast bar.

Have a hot shower in the en-suite shower room before heading off to bed. Lay your heads in the comfortable, double bedroom and open the double doors in here on warm mornings to let in a summer breeze. Decide whether to have a lazy morning watching TV in bed or to take a fresh cup of coffee out into the sunshine.

Make the most of your private, enclosed patio whenever the weather is fine. BBQ your supper out here on warm summer evenings or take a stroll around the gorgeous, shared gardens within the grounds. There’s plenty of parking at this cottage and you can store your bikes securely.

Find plenty of historical sights, beauty spots and attractions to visit within easy reach of the property. Gardening enthusiasts will love Breezy Knees Garden, about 3 miles away, where you can wander the different areas of the 20-acre grounds and enjoy around 7,000 varieties of colourful plants.

Those interested in military history might like to while away an afternoon at the Yorkshire Air Museum, which is 7 miles away, while guests who enjoy visiting country houses and stately homes might wish to plan a trip to the National Trust’s Beningbrough Hall, 16 miles from the barn, an Italianate property in 8 acres of beautiful grounds. It might also be worth planning a day trip to the coast. Drive to Bridlington, just under 30 miles away, to go to the beach and perhaps have fish and chips on the seafront.

In superb proximity to this holiday home, York is a fabulous place to explore. This ancient walled city has been the north’s spiritual capital for 2,000 years, but that’s not to say it is stuck in the past; York’s affluent population and its influx of tourist pounds has helped to create a cultural and commercial oasis. History seeps out of every cobbled street, but the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Everywhere in York is easily reachable by foot as this small but perfectly formed city houses most of its main attractions within the city walls. Middle Ages’ town planning means it can take quite some time to get your bearings but finding your way around the labyrinth of warped streets is part of the fun. Make sure you take in York Minster, the Shambles, the Railway Museum and Bettys tearoom whilst you're there.

If you are looking for outside space in which to relax, you have the choice of a number of parks and gardens, including Dean’s Park next to the Minster, the Yorkshire Museum Gardens next to the River Ouse and, slightly further afield, Rowntree Park with its children’s playground, tennis courts and bowling green.

And, what’s more, it really is a year-round location. Summer days can be spent lounging in one of the gorgeous parks and, in the autumn, York comes alive with shop windows sparkling in the dusky light. Its central location also makes a great base from which to explore the rest of glorious Yorkshire, with the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Yorkshire coastline all within easy reach for beautiful walks and adventurous days out.

Great cottage, everything you could need and owner pleasant. Unfortunately we had to leave early owing to my ill health. Also the pub recommended for a meal was fabulous. As walkers it would have been nice if there had been some footpaths nearby

A great little cottage in a quiet rural location. Stamford Bridge is close by for shops and restaurants. A very small property with very little space to move around. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and the towels were of poor quality. Very little storage space for personal items - only a wardrobe. We enjoyed our stay at Dairy cottage. Our host was very attentive and kind and left milk in the fridge for us, plus a box of chocolates, a bottle of red wine and some cookies which was a nice little touch. It was quiet, which we liked and only 1.5 miles to the Coop in Stamford Bridge. The Gold Cup pub in Low Catton was nice as well. We had a nice tRead moreime. Hide

A lovely cottage for myself and my wife. Very well appointed with everything you could possibly want in a self catering holiday. The supplied disposable bbq's were a great added touch. A simple 20 minute drive into the centre of York, where we spent most of our days during our stay. Highly recommended cottage for 2.
