Set on the very edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, an idyllic rural haven, the cottage enjoys an impressive position set amidst rolling countryside bursting with character.

This traditional Yorkshire stone property stands amongst a row of cottages in Thornton le Dale, a picturesque village that exudes olde-world charm in abundance and is ideally placed for exploring the North York Moors. Sleeping five guests across three bedrooms, your home away from home is a peaceful retreat for families and friendship groups alike.

Beneath the rustic exterior is a surprisingly contemporary living space with refined decor and comfortable furniture to match. The kitchen encompasses sleek units, ample worktop space and a range of equipment including an electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and wine cooler. Take a seat at the dining room and enjoy your spoils, or sample some of the tasty treats from your exclusive welcome pack.

In terms of necessities, there’s a handy utility room with ample storage for coats and shoes as well as a washing machine and tumble dryer to take care of any laundry needs. Your canine companion can have a quick wash-down in the downstairs shower room too, leaving you to relax and banish the worry of messy paws on the furniture.

Embrace a slower pace of life and throw a log onto the lounge wood burner ready to curl up with a glass of wine on the sofas. Watch TV or challenge your party to a few fun games. On warm evenings you can throw open the door for an al fresco feel, or venture outside and climb the steps for a soothing brew in your country cottage garden. A vibrant mix of wild flowers, bulbs and flowering shrubs makes this a wonderful spot for light breakfasts and morning coffee in the spring and summer before picking up your bikes from the storage provided and setting off on an adventure.

Back inside, two staircases lead up to separate areas of the cottage where you will find the beautiful bedrooms. The first set of stairs reveal a pretty single room that’s perfect for young guests as it allows for a silent night away from the excitement downstairs, and the remaining bedrooms can be found at the top of the second flight of stairs. Before sinking into the linen of the king-size bed or the super-king zip-and-link, relish a long soak in the bathroom. You’ll notice that the monochrome tiling extends from the open and airy kitchen to the sleek bathroom, completing the minimalist design with an artistic flair.

  • 3 bedrooms - 1 single, 1 king-size and 1 super-king-size zip-and-link (which can be made into a twin on request)
  • 2 bathrooms - 1 bathroom with bath and separate shower and WC and 1 shower room with shower and WC

Thornton Le Dale is a village seemingly untouched by time set against the stunning backdrop of the North York Moors. Quintessentially charming with a wonderful chocolate-box appeal, the village is perhaps best known for the thatched cottage nestled on the banks of the babbling brook, one of the most photographed locations in the entire National Park. Centred around a tiny village green and dotted with cafes, pubs and a seasonal tearoom, Thornton le Dale is a superb base for reconnecting with the great outdoors.

The vibrant and attractive market town of Pickering is within a 3-mile drive and is perfect for a relaxing wander around its pretty houses, shops and tearooms. Grand Georgian architecture stands alongside cosy traditional cottages to create a picture-postcard location with several excellent restaurants, pubs and cafes in the town. The wonderful North York Moors Railway starts in Pickering where you can catch a steam train to Whitby and back again through some of the most picturesque countryside in Yorkshire.

Beyond Pickering lies the awe-inspiring North York Moors, a landscape of gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. If you want to get away from it all, take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands, which is also a great option if walking is your thing.

In addition to Pickering, there are many well-heeled towns and villages dotted about the Moors, where honey-coloured sandstone buildings lend warm contrast to the deep purple and green of the surrounding hills. The beautiful market town of Helmsley is 15.5 miles away and is well worth a visit for its great restaurants, cafes and delis. If you fancy a little pampering, youll also find a fantastic day spa here.

The charming town of Kirkbymoorside is 10 miles away with its treasure trove of art and antique shops, tearooms, Ryedale Folk Museum and a great market. There is a theme park and zoo at Flamingo Land, 4.5 miles away and Eden Camp, a fascinating modern history museum, is just 6.5 miles away. Youre also close to Castle Howard (15.5 miles) and the North Yorkshire coast (16 miles), so lots of choice for day trips.

Immaculate and very comfortable cottage in a great location. Highly recommended. Some recent reviews have mentioned the overgrown garden however when we arrived a lot of clearance work had been done and its a very pleasant, enclosed garden. The only thing I have not seen mentioned is that the garden area is raised up some steps and there is an unfeRead morenced drop of about 5 feet backing onto a concrete path at the back of the cottage. Not for unattended young children. Hide

Lovely, well presented cottage ; very comfortable and clean. Location is excellent for visiting both the North Yorkshire moors and the coast. We didnt use the third bedroom but if a young child were to use it it is the other side of the house to the main bedrooms and living room so a child would not be heard easily.
