This quaint country cottage is in a fantastic location in the heart of Pickering, a beautiful North York Moors market town. Grand Georgian architecture stands alongside cosy traditional cottages to create a picture-postcard setting. There are several excellent restaurants, pubs and cafes in the town, all within a stone's throw from the cottage.

The wonderful North York Moors Railway starts in Pickering (the station itself is just a few hundred yards away) where you can catch a steam train to Whitby (21 miles) and back again through some of the most picturesque countryside in Yorkshire.

Beyond the town lies Dalby Forest and the amazing North York Moors, a landscape with gentle rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. If you want to get away from it all, take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands, a great option if walking is your thing. For families, the lure of local the theme park, high ropes and cycle trails may be difficult to resist.

In addition to Pickering there are many well-heeled towns and villages dotted about the Moors, where honey-coloured sandstone buildings lend warm contrast to the deep purple and green of the surrounding hills. The beautiful market town of Helmsley (15 miles) is close by and well worth a visit. If you fancy a little pampering, there’s a day spa you can visit – why not spoil yourself with a massage?

You could also journey to Castle Howard (16 miles), York (27 miles) or Scarborough on the North Yorkshire coast (20 miles).

Great cottage but back yard not great for dogs due to access by neighbours and lack of grass.

Reviewed by Jacqueline 16th August 2019

Small and cosy with just about everything you need. Great location for Whitby, Scarborough etc plus shops, cafes and pubs on the doorstep. Back yard was good for the dogs with plenty of nice walks round the castle. The only downside was that its on the main through road which is busy all day, every day and the noise and pollution was noticeable.

A really beautiful little cottage in a great location. The parking in the Black Swan worked perfectly and the pub itself made us very welcome. We would definitely go back for another visit.

Lovely cottage let down by a bed with an old mattress that you roll into the middle with and really not convinced that the oven or fridge were cleaned. Pretty place though in a handy situation

Response from Gorgeous Cottages:

Hi Ian, Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. I do agree Dove Cottage is a lovely cottage in a fabulous location. The owner has thanked you for your constructive feedback and she will be purchasing a new mattress this week. She has also confirmed that the oven and fridge are cleaned during each changeover. I do hope we can book you into another Gorgeous Cottage sometime in the future. Take care Louise

We love Pickering and Dove Cottage is ideally located for enjoying both the town and the beautiful surroundings. The facilities within the cottage were first class and the owners had thought of everything you might need. Excellent.

Dove cottage is beautiful, everything you could wish for. Really lovely decor, comfortable, beautifully clean and real attention to detail. We hadnt realised the cottage was near the main road but it really doesnt detract from the overall loveliness ??

Super cottage, would definitely recommend. It is a little noisy at night and the main road is very close but those issues and the lack of dedicated parking are the only downsides.

Our stay at Dove Cottage was lovely! As a family of four, we required a home from home in a good location to explore the beautiful moors, and Dove Cottage delivered. There was a thoughtful basket of treats awaiting us on arrival and milk in the fridge- really kind. We didnt come across anything that the owners had overlooked. The town itself has maRead moreny local shops adding to its charm, as well as Lidl and CoOp- so plenty of choice and all in walking distance; ideal for families. We took the train from Pickering station through to Whitby- a great day out! The cottage is located on an A road and having read the reviews prior to booking we were aware of this and decided that we could deal with this given the other many benefits the accommodation had to offer. Neither of our children were disturbed by the traffic noise, us adults were a little, but as we were up and out early every day we chose to see it more as an alarm clock! Parking is first come first served, as mentioned and we did find ourselves driving by a couple of times trying to get parked, but as the owner says, spaces do become available quite quickly. I would highly recommend Dove Cottage. The moors and the surrounding area is beautiful and we found our accommodation to compliment this perfectly! Hide
