With its wonderful uninterrupted views, elegant interiors and shared tennis court on the grounds, it's the perfect choice for couples looking for a sophisticated country escape. And when town calls, stunning medieval York is a is great place to visit while on your holidays.

Dating back to the early 19th century, this cottage is a Grade II listed building which now makes a luxurious and comfortable holiday home. Much of the character of the old brick and pantile barn remains, with exposed beams overhead giving you a sense of the building's history.

Downstairs, you'll find a very spacious open-plan living space with an elegant and peaceful ambience, home to the sitting, kitchen and dining area. Floor to ceiling windows and a glazed door provide far reaching views of the wild flower meadow and Howardian Hills beyond.

In the sitting area, there's plenty of comfy seating to snuggle up on and a wood burner set within an inglenook fireplace that keeps everything cosy. All wood is provided, so enjoy lighting up the fire every evening and settling down by its warm glow. And of course, the barn comes with full central heating.

For your entertainment there's a wall-mounted TV with SKY and Wi-Fi is also provided. And readers will love the mini library provided along the stairs.

The kitchen boasts cheerful blue tones and sleek styling. There's a dishwasher, fridge with an ice-box, ceramic hob, oven and a microwave. Coffee lovers will appreciate the Nespresso coffee machine. Settle down on your terrace with a cup to enjoy the morning sun.

The farmhouse dining table is just perfect for two. Pick up some excellent local produce from the village shop and rustle up a proper Yorkshire breakfast. Take your time and peruse the morning papers whilst you plan your day. A charming dresser is home to your glassware and crockery.

Make your way upstairs into the eaves of the barn to discover a generous master bedroom. This beautiful room features a super-king sleigh bed dressed in the finest cotton bed linen with plush velvet curtains adding to the sense of luxury. French doors lead out onto a Juliet balcony offering a bird's eye view of the surrounding landscape. It's a joy to throw open the doors and welcome in the sights and sounds of the Yorkshire countryside. The bedroom is also home to an easy chair, chest of drawers and plenty of inbuilt hanging space.

The bathroom is next door, another generous room with a fabulous free-standing bath. Sink in for a long soak after a busy day's sightseeing or hiking in the North York Moors. There's also a walk-in high-pressure shower, perfect for waking you up each morning.

Outside this beautiful barn, you'll find a sheltered stone terrace complete with outdoor furniture. Take your breakfast or lunch alfresco with the sun on your face. The field next to the barn has been recently planted as a wild flower meadow and is a riot of colour in late Spring, just the spot to throw down a blanket for a picnic. The grounds also have a tennis court, available for use by arrangement, and a large barn next door which is perfect for storing bikes. Your hosts live in the adjacent farmhouse next door.

For lovers of wildlife, kestrels, buzzards, skylarks, lapwings, curlews and geese are regular visitors, as are deer, hares and badgers.

This cosy cottage is tucked away down a long private lane in the picturesque countryside just North of York. It’s a 14 mile drive or you can catch a bus from the local village Stillington, just 2 miles away.

This pretty village has three pubs, one of which is an award-winning gastropub, and a fish and chip shop - so lots of choice for eats – as well as a shop.

Perfectly positioned to visit the very best of North Yorkshire, the cottage sits on the edge of an area called the Howardian Hills. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1987, this land of lush pastures and woodlands plays host to grand country houses, atmospheric ruins and handsome market towns.

Any visit to this area must include a day trip into York, a favourite amongst even the most seasoned of travellers. History seeps out of every cobbled street but the crooked old buildings also house a fantastic range of designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. Make sure you take in York Minster, The Shambles, the Railway Museum and Betty's tea room whilst you're there.

If walking or cycling is your thing, there are lots of beautiful paths and routes in the area, some right from the doorstep. If you fancy serious hiking, the North York Moors landscape offers some of the best trails in the country. Take a trip up to the top of the high moorlands around Blakey Ridge (27 miles) and breathe in that clear Yorkshire air.

The beautiful market town of Helmsley (14 miles) is within easy driving distance and is well worth a visit. Head 16 miles east to find Malton, another gorgeous market town offering lots of lovely independent shops and cafes to indulge in, or the charming market town of Easingwold is a great option at just 6 miles from the cottage.

Wow what an amazing find. Emerald Barn has everything you could want and more. Tim and Claire are so friendly, but without being intrusive. Lots of special treats for us on Arrival which was really appreciated after a long drive. The woodburning stove is wonderful after a day out visiting the surrounding area.

This is a gem of an accommodation. The only criticism, if one can call it such, is that the owner has underplayed what a wonderful cottage and location is provided.
