A wonderful retreat for two located in the pretty, slow-paced village of Sleights, sitting in a prime location between the beautiful Yorkshire Coast and the picturesque North York Moors.

This holiday apartment is a divine escape in the pretty village of Sleights, just 4.5 miles from Whitby and the beautiful Yorkshire Coast. With its cosy wood burner, stylish open-plan design and breathtaking views of the Eskdale Valley from the patio, we think it's the perfect honeymoon hideaway. An idyllic setting for couples looking for a truly romantic holiday cottage on the Yorkshire Coast.

Accessed from the outside by a few steps and set on the lower ground level of the property, this property feels like a deluxe studio. There is a stylish feel to this luxury cottage, with romantic accents and little touches throughout that give it a really homely atmosphere.

The kitchen is stocked with crockery and glassware and the goodies on arrival and honesty bar are a welcome sight.

Perfect for two people, the open-plan design feels spacious and cosy at the same time, with a generous sitting room, dining and kitchen area leading onto a wonderfully romantic bedroom - just perfect for a lazy breakfast in bed. For your entertainment there's a TV with wireless Bluetooth speakers and an iPad available for guest's use.

The bathroom is housed in a separate room and includes a large bath and walk-in power shower. You'll find complimentary toiletries as well. There is also a very handy laundry room which doubles as a storage space. You'll even find some wellies to borrow in here if you want to strike out for a walk across the North York Moors. It's the little extras like this and the devoted attention to detail which makes this romantic Yorkshire Coast cottage such a delight.

French doors open onto a private stone patio with stunning views of the Eskdale Valley below. Throw open the doors and watch the steam trains of the North York Moors Railway puff along below you on their way to Whitby and Pickering. And if you ever tire of the view (which we seriously doubt!) this romantic cottage on the Yorkshire Coast has plenty of other entertainment, provided in the form of a TV, iPod dock, ceiling surround sound and a library of books, DVDs and Blu-ray discs.

Outside, this cottage has a beautiful stone patio and lawned garden complete with patio furniture and a built-in BBQ. Settle down with a glass of wine, a slice of cake and just enjoy the view!

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

  • 1 king-size bed
  • 1 bathroom with walk-in shower, bath WC and Elemis toiletries

  • Laundry room with washer and tumble dryer
  • Private enclosed garden with patio area and comfy seating to enjoy the amazing view

  • Off-road parking for 1 car
  • 2 dogs welcome
  • Gorgeous welcome hamper for your and your doggie, and well-researched local guide included, and honesty bar included
  • Pub, Restaurant, shops including award winning Butchers, deli and Bakery within a ten minute walk away

Perched on the hillside of the beautiful Esk Valley in the village of Sleights, you can hop on a steam train at Grosmont (3 miles) or feel the sand between your toes on Whitby's beach (4.5 miles).

Sleights itself is a peaceful little village with a scattering of shops and places to eat. Just along the road from the cottage you'll find a traditional and welcoming pub with cask ales, hearty local food and a log fire to keep you warm and toasty in the colder months. If you decide to eat in, you can pick up some local produce from the butcher and deli in the village. If you are enjoying this luxury cottage near Whitby with kids, there is also a lovely children's park a short walk away.

You’re less than 5 miles from the stunning North Yorkshire coastline, made up of a mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is proper bucket 'n spade territory. The coast's villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars.

Although you could happily spend the weekend mooching about the independent shops, bars and cafes along Whitby's bustling medieval streets, it's worth striking out to sample some of the other coastal villages nearby. Robin Hood's Bay (8 miles) is one of the most popular coastal locations in Yorkshire and this village is a maze of cobbled streets and higgledy-piggledy houses which seem to tumble down towards the sea. Sandsend (5 miles), Staithes (12 miles) and Runswick Bay (11 miles) are all within easy driving distance, each with their own unique charm.

Head west from the cottage and you can be in the heart of the North York Moors within a few miles. Take a tour of the pretty towns and villages in the area, Egton (5.5 miles), Danby (14 miles), Castleton (15 miles), Rosedale (14 miles). Otherwise, you could head up to the high moorland of Castleton Rigg (15 miles), a walker’s dream that on a clear day will take your breath away.

A little bit of luxury in a beautiful, relaxing location. Everything you could need for a break away from it all, but with everything at hand. We wanted somewhere special that was dog friendly and this was perfect. Walks close by and a safe enclosed garden where they could chill out after a day out.

The views are stunning, The Retreat is a studio apartment which is nicely decorated and modern but there is far to much stuff in there-It's cluttered. There was a family staying in the cottage above the Retreat which the noise from above was not appreciated. On an evening it gets cold-the temperaturRead moree of the under floor heating is set to 16 degrees and you have to phone the owner to get it adjusted!! the logs soon went on the log burner, which shouldn't have to be the case. There was a cob web from the ceiling to the table and the window at the side of the table had several cob webs on the inside, there was broken glass under the chair in front of the door. The owner was present at 9.15am presumably to make sure you are out by 10am which we didn't appreciate.

Response from Gorgeous Cottages:

Hi Nigel.Thank you for your feedback. As you have now stayed at Ewelands Retreat on three occasions we really do appreciate your comments. Most guests love the attention to detail and the cottage feel at Ewelands Retreat. Although the cottages are next to each other the owners have very little comments as regarding noise and have taken every step possible to minimise this. The underfloor heating is always set to 21 degrees morning and evening and 18 degrees at all other times. As with your previous stays at the cottage the owners are always available by telephone to assist if any issues occur. The owners provide a large basket of logs, kindling and fire lighters and if they are nearby will always replenish for you if requested. Geoff is always around from 9am preparing for changeovers and also to wish departing guests a safe journey home and never calls on any guests to ensure departure is at 10am. We do hope to welcome you back to Yorkshire in the not too distant future.Take Care Marion Hide
