Breathtaking views, stunning interiors and a village pub - just a few of the reasons why you'll fall head over heels in love with this property.

The North York Moors is an incredibly special place. Not only is the countryside here simply stunning but it's packed to the rafters with attractions to visit, places to see and excellent restaurants and gastro pubs at every turn. That's why it's so exciting when you find a holiday cottage like this one to explore it from. Without doubt, one of our most idyllic holiday cottages, its rustic charm and exceptional attention to detail ensures you will want to come back time and time again.

Let's start with the beautiful kitchen where you'll find everything you need, including children's crockery and cutlery if required. You'll arrive to a sumptuous hamper filled with lots of little extras including, eggs, fresh bread and a bottle of wine. The heated stone floor and exposed oak beams are the icing on the cake.

Moving on to the country-chic sitting room. What better way to finish a busy day's sightseeing than curling up by the wood burner with a nice glass of red. With a TV and Wi-Fi included there's lots to keep you entertained. That's if you can drag yourself away from the view!

Both bedrooms in the property boast king-size beds, LCD TVs and cosy faux-fur bed throws. They're also en-suite, the first enjoying a bathtub to sink into and the second a walk-in shower. As you would expect from this standard of cottage, the bed linen is of the highest quality.

Immediately to the front of this luxury Yorkshire cottage is an enclosed south-facing garden which includes a lawned area and a gravel patio. Garden furniture is provided so you can enjoy lunch alfresco in the warmer months. The views from this garden are truly spectacular, and as this is a tiny little hamlet the only noise outside is the sound of birdsong in the air.

  • 2 bedrooms - One King size and one Super-King zip and link bed (can be made up as singles upon request) both with TVs and both accessed via stairs
  • 2 bathrooms - both en-suites - one with a bath with shower over and one with a walk-in shower
  • Oven, hob and microwave, fridge and freezer
  • Underfloor heating and wood burner
  • Smart TV
  • Wi-Fi included
  • South-facing enclosed garden, leading directly from the property with lawn and gravel patio (BBQ use is permitted but not provided)
  • Ample off-road parking
  • Unfortunately, EV charging is not possible at the cottage. There are local EV points in Kirkbymoorside, Pickering and Helmsley
  • Pub less than 100 yards
  • Shop within 5 miles
  • Washing machine, tumble dryer
  • 2 dogs welcome - maximum medium sized, well behaved, quiet dogs welcomed in this cottage. Pets must not be left unattended in the cottage unless they are happy to be caged (cage not provided) and are not likely to bark. We kindly request that they are not allowed in bedrooms or on the furniture
  • Floorplan available upon request for your information
  • Farndale Store is located just 3 miles away, stocking all your essential items
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 2 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £200 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £25. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

The property is set in a pretty little hamlet (complete with a local pub) in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. This particular dale is famed for its daffodil walk when each spring, the river banks come alive with the yellow flowers, said to be planted originally by the monks who settled on this land many hundreds of years ago.

Lesser known than its Yorkshire cousin the Dales, the North York Moors are literally on your doorstep. This glorious expanse of heather-clad countryside is simply stunning, and it's well worth taking some time to explore it properly. The moors cover an area of almost 600 square miles and like the dales, you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the moors. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but it’s cast in comforting soft focus.

This is serious walking country, so if you enjoy donning the old walking boots and striking out into the countryside this cottage has the perfect location. No need to get in the car at all, there are some truly breathtaking walking trails from the door. And of course the same is true for cycling. There are also countless picture-postcard villages to explore within a few miles including the chocolate-box Hutton-le-Hole (6 miles).

Close by you also have the fantastic town of Helmsley (15 miles). At the heart of the town square is a statue of Lord Feversham, a distant ancestor of the current lord who resides in Duncombe Park. This stunning baroque mansion sits on the outskirts of town and is a good choice for an afternoon's sightseeing. If you want to indulge some more architectural desires, the equally grand Nunnington Hall 15 miles away is another grand abode worth a peek.

Helmsley is a foodie’s heaven, packed with exquisite tea rooms, cafes and on the pulse organic delis. It's also surrounded by some of the best gastro pubs in the UK. Tucked alongside these culinary delights are lots of unique shops, galleries and antique dealers, just the place to build up an appetite for lunch.

The neighbouring town of Pickering (18 miles) is similar in many ways and is host to its own delightful set of shops, cafes and restaurants. A few miles further on takes you to Thornton-Le-Dale (18 miles), a very pretty North York Moors village with thatched houses and a sleepy little brook. Stop for some ice cream here and remind yourself what life in the slow lane feels like.

Great property, very thoughtfully kitted out and spotlessly clean. Lovely welcome pack, very generous. Also a big positive to have friendly pub over the road and fantastic country store in walking distance. We enjoyed walks from the door and had a perfect weekend.

We loved our holiday at Fern Retreat, one of the cottages in this small complex of holiday cottages. We were a group of 4 adults and 2 dogs and although the shared space was quite compact, we managed fine and also enjoyed being able to sit out in the garden as we had wonderful weather and the views are stunning. Everything was of a high quality. ThRead moree internet seemed to work better in the downstairs bedroom area and was patchy for watching TV upstairs at some times, luckily the walking was fab! Hide

Super cottage in a great location. The building has been expertly converted to a high standard. Well equipped and well presented. One spacious, light bedroom and one that's dark and not so welcoming. Both very comfy though. Poor wifi in the living area needs fixing.

Beautifully renovated cottage in wonderful location; stylish and generally well-equipped. Pub opposite is very friendly and serves good food. Excellent garden for sitting and admiring the view, also for our dog to have an enclosed space. Phone reception lacking (O2) and wifi signal very intermittent.

Absolutely perfect is all we can say. The accommodation is beautiful. We had an idyllic week. Our puppy loved the safe private garden - and we loved the fabulous pub opposite! Rachel is the most welcoming landlady and the food is great. We are already working out when we can return.

Exceeded our expectations, beautifully decorated and in a truly charming and peaceful location in the Dales. Spectacular view from our garden and great to sit out there with a coffee in the morning listening to and watching all the wildlife. Pub across the road was a bonus with friendly staff and nice food. Would definitely recommend the cottage.
