Whether you want waterfalls, rivers, woodland or rolling green hills, this area has it all; it is ideal for keen walkers and cyclists alike with a range of routes and trails nearby to suit all abilities. Historians are also well catered for, as Richmond itself is steeped in history and there are lots of historical buildings and sites of interest to discover nearby. After a busy day exploring, you will have no difficulty in finding somewhere to enjoy a cup of Yorkshire tea or a pint of ale, as local towns and villages have plenty of tearooms, pubs and cafes to choose from.

As you descend the few steps into the front garden and approach the front door, you will get a sense that the owners of this house pay excellent attention to detail and this continues inside the property. With pastel colours and neutral tones throughout, this semi-detached cottage is light and airy, yet homely. Traditional furniture and contemporary fixtures sit alongside one another to ensure this property is in touch with its heritage but still suitable for modern guests looking for comfort and style.

As you enter the hallway, remove your coats and boots before heading into the cosy lounge with its traditional fireplace and wood burner-effect gas fire, where pale greens and rich wooden tones create a wonderful country-cottage feel. It is the perfect place to relax of an evening. To the rear of the house is a delightful, well-equipped kitchen-diner with plenty of natural light pouring in, making it a great place to cook up some treats, enjoy a morning coffee or devour an evening meal. Also, on the ground floor is the first of two bedrooms. This king-size room is beautifully presented with white furniture, including a dressing table.

Up the steep, cottage stairs, you will find the second bedroom, which is a double. Again, it is wonderfully decorated and offers plenty of space. Also. on the first floor is the bathroom with a shower over the bath.

Outside, in addition to the grassy area to the front of the property, there is a lovely, gravelled courtyard garden to the rear. Here, you can enjoy a BBQ and a spot of al fresco dining. As the sun sets, keep warm with the chiminea whilst you enjoy quality time together. There is roadside parking, subject to availability.

Richmond is a charming market town on the borders of Wensleydale and Swaledale. It boasts an 11th-century castle, fine Georgian architecture, an historic Georgian theatre and a large cobbled market square as some of its many attractions. Stroll into town for a cup of Yorkshire tea at one of the many tea rooms there or pop over for dinner at one of the excellent restaurants.

The gorgeous River Swale runs through the town and across the river, less than a mile, are the River Swale Waterfalls. You can walk in either direction along the river and deep into the countryside without having to go anywhere near the car. We also recommend exploring the restored former Richmond Railway Station which has lots to entertain young and old including a small cinema, cafe/restaurant, gallery, microbrewery and artisan bakery.

Richmond is also known as 'The Gateway to the Dales' so expect stunning Dales scenery within minutes of leaving the town. Peppering this glorious countryside are countless attractive little towns and villages and if you enjoy a bit of surreal entertainment, how about visit to the quite brilliant and quirky Forbidden Corner, an attraction full of statues and hidden surprises, 14 miles away near Middleham.

The historic village of Easby, home to Easby Abbey is 1.5 miles away. Set on the banks of the River Swale, the Abbey is the perfect spot for a picnic in the summer months. There are lots of other breathtaking historical sites to explore in the Dales, including the stunning Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, 30 miles, a World Heritage Site.

This is a superb area for walkers and cyclists with many routes from the doorstep or just a short distance away including Alfred Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast Walk which passes close by. And with York, Harrogate and the North York Moors all within easy striking distance (under an hour’s drive on a clear run) you have lots of choice for day trips!

Great location. Easy to access a variety of places in the Dales. Within walking distance of the town centre. Great facilities in the house - like a mini home from home.

Cottage was in perfect location for walks and visiting town centre. Richmond is a beautiful place with a good mixture of high street shops and boutiques. Only downside was no parking, however we were aware of this when booking. Cars can be parked over the road. Great park and skate park nearby for the children and lots of country walks with the dogRead mores. Best cottage we have used, all smaller bits included such as condiments and cleaning supplies. Would not hesitate to book again Hide

A comfortable and well located property. Owners very thoughtful in providing many home comforts and equipment. We liked the pleasant and well maintained outside area. Good base for exploring surrounding countryside. Should mention hilly location that may not have suited less fit guests.
