Discover this luxurious Georgian manor in North Yorkshire, the perfect place to host families and friends for a special celebration while surrounded by the breathtaking Yorkshire countryside.

Discover this magnificent six-bedroom, five-bathroom Georgian manor house sitting at the heart of an award-winning village near Richmond. This beautiful 1730's listed house combines style, elegance and comfort to create the perfect large luxury holiday home. It's the ultimate choice for families and groups of friends looking for that special place to celebrate or catch up.

There is a grand appeal to the interiors, yet the classic contemporary styling has given it a contented and relaxed charm. Stepping into the entrance hall, with its heated stone flooring and beautiful staircase, you immediately sense that this is an historic country home with 21st century comforts.

Make your way along the hallway and into the heart of the home, a fabulous large kitchen perfect for cooking, entertaining and dining. With the AGA keeping it toasty warm and a huge marble covered kitchen island to gather around, it's the perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks each evening. Double doors lead to the formal dining room with its wonderful views out to the gardens and French doors onto the terrace. A room just waiting to be filled with the sound of laughter from diners stretching long into the night.

Continue on through another set of double doors to the beautifully appointed drawing room, full of period features including a stunning marble fireplace. French doors from the drawing room lead onto a handsome walled garden, croquet lawn and outdoor stone fireplace - perfect to gather around for an evening cocktail under the stars. The interlinking flow of the principal reception rooms makes this cottage a unique and outstanding home for families to come together on a grand scale.

Another luxurious addition to the lodge is the high-tech cinema room with a large high-definition screen with integrated surround sound. A log burner brings a cosy feel to the snug, making it perfect for younger guests to escape to whilst the parents unwind next door. There's a downstairs boot room and WC too.

All of the bedrooms are upstairs and set over two floors. The first is a breathtaking en-suite master bedroom with stunning views of the formal gardens and countryside beyond. Star of the show in the bathroom is a beautiful free-standing bath sitting in the centre of the room. There's also a double walk-in shower in here and a separate WC discreetly behind a hidden door.

The second bedroom is a delightful family room which includes a double bed and two singles. A further double bedroom sits next door and both rooms share a family bathroom. At the front of the house you'll find the fourth bedroom, a lovely double with views over the enclosed courtyard and an en-suite shower room and WC. There's also a dressing area in this room if you like a little more space. Next door to that is the fifth bedroom, another double enjoying its own bathroom with shower and WC.

The top floor features a generous room set in the eaves of the house which has two double beds and a fabulous luxurious bathroom with a feature free-standing bath and large walk-in shower. It's the sort of bathroom you just won't want to leave. The landing provides a quiet reading area with large picture skylight windows providing lovely views of the paddocks surrounding the house and the village beyond.

Matching the stunning interiors of this large luxury Yorkshire holiday home are the gorgeous gardens. Take a turn about the formal garden breathing in the scent of lavender on a warm summer evening. Release the children into the large lawned area where they can burn off steam, safe in the knowledge that they are enclosed and safe. Settle down to an al fresco lunch or dinner on the majestic stone terrace to the front of the house, with that gorgeous Georgian facade as your backdrop.

Gorgeous house, mostly well equipped and beautifully decorated (apart from the scruffy living room furniture which badly needs reupholstering). The side of the house backs directly on to the busy main road through the village, so all but one of the bedrooms suffer noise at night, which kept some of Read moreus awake. Although beautifully appointed, it is expensive for what it is - hence our value for money rating. We have stayed in holiday houses for 30 years and have never had such an odd experience at the start and end of the holiday. At the start of the holiday, the owners apparently insist that the housekeeper has to show round the guests, pointing out all the rules and prohibitions (no shoes upstairs; don't break the gate as previous guests have done; don't touch the handles of locked private rooms etc etc), as well as, bizarrely, asking us to empty all the wastepaper baskets, 'including the bathroom bins', before leaving - something we've never been asked to do before, even in much cheaper houses. We were instructed to accompany the housekeeper into every single room, and not to walk ahead. At the end of the holiday, the housekeeper was apparently required by the owners to arrive half an hour before the scheduled leaving time, so that she could do a detailed check of each room before we left, so that the security deposit could be released. This means that anyone renting the house is in practice required to be ready to leave by 9.30, not the advertised 10.00. This made for a very stressful departure, as the housekeeper started to clear up around us as we were packing the cars between 9.30 and 10.00. The very odd beginning and end of the holiday definitely detracted from the overall experience. We were made to feel like naughty schoolchildren who needed to be checked up on, rather than guests paying handsomely for a premium experience.

Response from Gorgeous Cottages:

Hi Charlotte, thank you for you review, we do appreciate all feedback. The owner does place a lot of importance on giving a friendly welcome so that guests can then enjoy a trouble free stay and at check out have a chat to make sure everything has been okay, usually this service is appreciated. Guests are asked if they wouldnt mind taking rubbish out but they dont have to if they dont want to. The property has been restored, however is a listed building from the 1730s and when the wind is up windows in 300 year old houses do rattle sometimes, we havent had complaints about this before. The house is located in an award winning village with the benefit of a gastro pub within strolling distance. Yorkshire has so much to offer we would love to welcome you back for another stay in the future, please call to discuss your requirements as we have Gorgeous Cottages in more rural locations which may be better suited for you. Take care, Maureen. Hide
