This cosy hideaway is full of character in a rural hamlet located on the outskirts of Thirsk. An ideal romantic retreat for couples whatever the occasion.

Set in an idyllic location, between Yorkshire’s dales and moors, this gorgeous cottage is made for two. It’s the ideal destination for a country drive or a muddy amble around the undulating landscape before a lazy afternoon with homecooked food in a sunny pub garden. The charms of the cathedral city of Ripon (7.5 miles), and the spa town of Harrogate (18.5 miles) are also in reach for day trips. Stay in this former coaching house and enjoy the privacy and tranquillity of this rural setting with country walks from your doorstep. The cottage lies in the heart of Herriot country with the former home of the renowned vet and author James Herriot just 5 miles away in the pretty village Thirsk; you’ll recognise scenes from the TV adaption of Herriot’s books throughout the area. On-site, you’ll find off-road parking and convenient bike storage, plus a shop for essentials and a pub nearby (2 miles).

Store hiking boots and shoes in the hallway, and step inside this charming detached property where you’re greeted with a welcome pack and country-style interiors with muted tones and cheery pops of colour. Snuggle up on cosy seating in the open-plan living area and you’ll soon feel toasty after your walk with the warmth from the wood burner. The owners have thought of all your needs here, with ample storage, shelving, and beautiful furnishings throughout the property. Create delicious meals together in the well-equipped kitchen and dining area – the table seats four if you have visitors. Curl up with a good book or choose a DVD and enjoy popcorn and film nights on the TV. Head upstairs to find your spacious king-size bedroom with a stylish en-suite bathroom featuring wood-panelled walls, storage cupboards, and two areas of vanity to indulge in – the main bathroom area has a large bathtub made for long bubbly soaks, and there is also a sleek and stylish shower room area. You’ll also find a convenient WC on the ground floor.

Treat your loved one to breakfast in bed before venturing out for the day; or enjoy morning coffees on the patio while your canine companion sniffs the fresh country air in this beautiful setting.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

With the Yorkshire Dales National Park (10 miles), the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (10 miles), and the North York Moors National Park (9 miles) nearby, you’ll never be short of inspiration for day trips on your holiday escape to Yorkshire. Don your hiking boots and set out to explore God’s Own Country, from the undulating country landscape with rolling hills to lofty fells and craggy moors, all peppered with the prettiest of villages and most vibrant of market towns. Discover the World of James Herriot Museum, the Thirsk Museum (the birthplace of the founder of Lord’s cricket ground), and twice-weekly markets in Thirsk (5 miles).

Potter around the marketplace in Ripon (7.5 miles) where you can source delicious ingredients for supper and enjoy the independent shops, pubs, and eateries before admiring the magnificent cathedral – look out for the medieval choir stalls which inspired author Lewis Carroll, or sense the words of poet Wilfred Owen who stayed here during the First World War. Listen out for the Ripon Hornblower – for more than 450 years, a curfew has been sounded at 9pm from all four sides of the obelisk followed by a 15-minute history of the ceremony at this small and perfectly formed city. Or, hedge your bets at Ripon Racecourse, known as ‘Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse’ (8 miles), which hosts a variety of race days between April and September accompanied with bandstands, food and refreshments.

History buffs will love the heritage of this region too. Discover Norton Conyers (8 miles); Newby Hall (10.5 miles); Ripley Castle (15 miles). Or venture towards the National Trust Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden (11.5 miles), a World Heritage Site with a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, an Elizabethan mansion, fantastic follies, mirrored ponds, and a medieval deer park; you’ll enjoy the most romantic views here too, perhaps the backdrop to inspire a proposal. Plan a day trip to the elegant Victorian market town of Harrogate (18.5 miles) where you can visit the historic Pump Room museum; stroll in the dreamy Valley Gardens; indulge and rejuvenate in the Victorian Turkish Baths; savour afternoon tea in the town’s famous tearoom; and visit the annual Harrogate Flower Show. Or discover the setting for The Secret Garden film – the historic walled garden at Helmsley Castle (18.5 miles).

A beautiful well thought out cottage with all the comforts of home. We arrived late due to traffic so we were very grateful for the welcome pack when we arrived.
