This cottage is an idyllic one-bedroom luxury retreat tucked away on the cusp of the stunning North York Moors. This stylish barn conversion near Pickering (6 miles) is the perfect choice for couples looking for a romantic escape to the country.

It's a beautiful old stone barn which has been subject to a luxury makeover. A combination of character features and contemporary comforts ensure this gorgeous holiday cottage charms from the moment you set foot here. Guests will arrive to a yummy welcome hamper with plenty to keep you going if you haven't had a chance to make it to the shops yet.

The large open-plan living area has a dramatic vaulted ceiling and exposed beams. This space is home to the kitchen, dining area and lounge. With a cosy wood burner to curl up besides, this is a welcoming and comfortable space. The well-equipped kitchen comes equipped with a Nespresso coffee maker, dishwasher and washer/dryer for your convenience. A sweet dining table sits between the kitchen and lounge, the perfect spot for a hearty cooked breakfast or romantic candlelit dinner.

Moving over to the lounge you'll find comfy seating for two. Bring that book you've been meaning to read for ages and settle down by the fire. Logs are provided for the multi-fuel stove so you can get it roaring on arrival. There's plenty of entertainment too including a TV, DVD player and DVDs, Wi-Fi, a Bluetooth speaker and a variety of games and books available to enjoy.

And in the evenings you can look forward to sinking into a super king-size bed. This bed can also be set up as two singles if preferred. The generous bedroom has heaps of space to relax in, definitely a spot for a lazy breakfast in bed. The house bathroom sits next door to the bedroom and has a walk-in shower and separate bath for those evening soaks. A lovely way to end a day's sightseeing.

Outside you'll find your own private patio and outside furniture to enjoy in the warmer months. Take your morning coffee out here or indulge with a slap-up lunch and bottle of wine alfresco. There's also a private grassed area to lounge about on a picnic rug. With the sights and sounds of the Yorkshire countryside all around you, it's a heavenly spot. This property has an idyllic rural location. Set just outside the pretty North York Moors village of Kirkbymoorside (4.5 miles) you can strike out for a walk right from the doorstep.

Sitting at the eastern foot of the North York Moors, the region's dramatic landscape of heather and open moorland is just a short drive away. Somewhat smaller than the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors still cover an area of almost 600 square miles and like the Dales you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. Yet there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the Moors. In place of harsh limestone and dramatic peaks you'll find gentle rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but it’s cast in comforting soft focus.

The handsome market towns of Pickering and Helmsley (10 miles) are both a must, as is the archetypical Moors village of Hutton-le-Hole (6 miles) and the picture-postcard village of Thornton-Le-Dale (11 miles).

This property is a 24-mile drive to Scarborough on the coast. Much like its Cornish counterpart, the North Yorkshire coastline is a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is proper bucket 'n’ spade territory. The coastal villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars.

The stunning city of York is a 28-mile drive and the perfect option for a day trip.
