Charming chocolate-box country cottage situated deep within the heart of Wensleydale, surrounded by nothing but picturesque views offering a heavenly rural escape to the Yorkshire Dales.

Discover this magical and romantic property, a chocolate box country cottage set deep in the heart of Wensleydale. With cosy welcoming interiors and views to die for, this property offers a heavenly rural escape into the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales.

Tucked away on a hillside of this lush green dale, it is one of those idyllic little houses that just define the word ‘cottage'. Arrive to a handsome stone exterior clad clematis and roses, leading you into a warm and inviting home. Inside you'll find a generous living room with an original stone fireplace and wood burner at its heart. Light up the fire and take your pick from two comfy sofas or a rocking chair to curl up on. Yorkshire stone flagstones underfoot and exposed beams overhead give the room bags of character. Make sure to watch your head on the low beam coming in.

In addition to its period charm, there are lots of contemporary comforts too. You'll find a Smart TV and a DVD player, radio, Bluetooth speaker and Wi-Fi. So, lots to keep you entertained each evening after a day's walking in the Dales.

Make your way through to the atmospheric kitchen/diner where further exposed stone walls and floors continue the period feel. The bespoke kitchen features a range cooker and induction hob set under a stone lintel. All the usual mod cons are provided including a dishwasher. A further utility room/boot room has a washing machine and fridge/freezer.

At the heart of the kitchen is a circular dining table, the perfect spot to settle down to a hearty Yorkshire meal. Or to spread out the Sunday papers on while you relax with your morning coffee. No need to rush today.

This holiday home enjoys the luxury of a separate formal dining room with an original stone fireplace and stone flagged floors. Accessed through the sitting room, you'll find a rustic dining table to gather around as well as a bookcase in here, home to lots of books and a cd player.

Downstairs is also home to a wet room-style shower room. Perfect if you're just back muddy and windswept after a walk in the hills. Dash in here to warm yourself up ready to settle down for the evening.

Both bedrooms in the property are set upstairs. The first is the gorgeous master bedroom which enjoys views out to the front over countryside. This light and peaceful room has an understated elegant appeal with its off-white walls, an original cast iron fireplace and exposed floor boards that add to the character of the room. The star of the show is the patio doors leading out onto your own private roof terrace. Complete with a patio table and chairs, the views from here are just breathtaking, a wonderful place to take in dusk falling over the dales.

The second bedroom is also facing to the front and continues the country cottage theme with its white and subtle blue accents. There's another double bed in here, and those amazing views are waiting for you through the window. Rest a while on the window seat and drink them in.

Upstairs is also home to the house bathroom featuring a pretty roll top bath with shower overhead. Indulge yourself with a long hot bath each evening.

There is much to enjoy outside too including a beautiful cottage garden with lots of mature roses and different seating areas. There's also a fledgling wild flower meadow to discover. Settle down to lunch alfresco and marvel at the local birdlife all around.

The cottage has a fantastic location. Nestling high up on a hillside in Raydale, a quiet secret dale off Upper Wensleydale, the views here are simply stunning. Wensleydale also borders the wild and magnificent dales to the north of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale. A great choice for a day trip if you want to get away from it all.

The local area includes two lakes including Semerwater (3 miles), Yorkshire's largest natural lake. The great artist Turner himself was so impressed by the beauty of this landscape that he painted it several times. There is a lovely walk to the lake from the cottage past a ruined church, down to the shore - the perfect spot for a picnic. The River Bain, Britain's shortest river, runs out of Semerwater.

It is something of a walker's paradise with many stunning trails right from your doorstep. Strike out on foot and discover why the Yorkshire Dales are so renowned for offering some of the best walking in the UK. Take in the sights and sounds of untouched nature and remind yourself how good it is to unplug for a while.

At night, the total lack of light pollution makes this the most amazing location to star gaze. Settle down on your bedroom terrace and take in the night skies.

There are lots of pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range of this cottage. Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are under 15 miles away, the thriving market town of Hawes (home of the now famous Wensleydale cheese) is just 7 miles. The gorgeous villages of West Burton (11 miles) and Askrigg (7 miles) offer further options so lots of choice for things to do if you want to get out and about.

Everything I imagined a remote Yorkshire Dales Cottage to be. Excellent spot for an authentic experience - to get away from it all and switch off from the hustle and bustle of life. Great hosts who were on hand should we ever need them. Top marks and I cant wait to come back.

Lovely cottage in a great place, the owners are great and very thoughtful. You need to be aware of low ceilings and the sitting room beam which is very low however. The cottage is beautiful, it has all mod cons. Having said that the shower in the bathroom leaked so badly that after only one use we decided not to use it again in fear of damaging the polished wooden bathroom floor and flooding the dining room below. We were however able to use the downstairs wetrRead moreoom which was fine. There are a few low beams and one stone beam that is particularly dangerous from the bathroom to landing. I collided with it twice the second time ended up on my backside not knowing what happened. Any one taller than 5'6" will find it uncomfortable as the cottage wasn't built to accommodate 21 century man. If your looking for a very secluded typical Yorkshire cottage 5miles from the nearest shop then this is the place to stay.

Response from Gorgeous Cottages:

Hi Steve, thank you for your review, I am pleased that you found the cottage beautiful with all mod cons. With regards to the leaking shower in the bathroom, the owner is getting this fixed but wasnt aware of the problem and would have been happy if you had contacted her during your stay, thank you for your feedback on this. The website does state that the cottage is 5 miles from the nearest pub and shop and watch your head on the low beams. We are pleased that you would recommend Gorgeous Cottages and we would hope to welcome you back for another stay. If you would like to call us next time we can discuss your requirements to find the perfect cottage for you and your requirements. Take care Maureen. Hide
