East Cowton is a pretty North Yorkshire village close to the thriving market town of Northallerton (9 miles), which is rich with independent shops, restaurants and tearooms, alongside a twice-weekly market. A great starting point for walkers and cyclists, the village is just to the west of the vibrant little village of Osmotherley (12.5 miles). This gorgeous place is real picture-postcard stuff. It also offers excellent facilities including a cafe, village stores and a fish and chip shop. If you're a bit of a foodie, this part of Yorkshire is packed with fantastic gastropubs, restaurants and delis.

Situated within the western reaches of the North York Moors, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1987, Osmotherley has close proximity to lush pastures and woodlands. The western moors play host to grand country houses, atmospheric ruins and handsome market towns, and the views from here are simply stunning, with walks and cycle routes in every direction. Go walking on the famous Cleveland Way (12 miles) as well as many other well-known and picturesque moorland walks.

The attractive town of Bedale (16.5 miles) is always worth a visit. Stop for a coffee before making your way around the town's antique shops and independent boutiques. Foodies will be delighted by the range of local produce, including beers and cheeses, on offer.

Nearby, the charming market town of Leyburn (18.5 miles) is a typical slice of Dales country life. You'll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain.

The historic town of Richmond (11 miles) is similar in many ways and is sat in a lovely location along the River Swale. There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range. If rambling is your thing, the Yorkshire Dales are something of a walker's paradise with many beautiful routes from your doorstep. There are plenty of options for cycling too in Tour de Yorkshire country. When you need to refuel, stop at one of the area's many excellent gastropubs.

With a varied landscape of windswept dales, heather-clad moors and dramatic coast, interspersed with picturesque towns and villages, vibrant cities and a rich historical heritage, Yorkshire is rightly considered one of Britain's premier holiday destinations. Known as 'God's Own County', Yorkshire has nearly one-third of England's National Parkland, two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and three sections of coastline designated as Heritage Coast.

Offering infinite opportunities for lovers of the great outdoors, the wild expanse of the Yorkshire Dales National Park in North and West Yorkshire is a glorious mix of awe-inspiring scenery, imposing castles, characterful Dales' villages and drystone walls. While to the east, the North York Moors National Park offers atmospheric moorland, fragrant pine forests and charming towns tucked away within steep-sloped valleys. Extending all the way to the Yorkshire Coast, you can even experience a traditional day at the seaside at popular resorts including Whitby, Flamborough and Scarborough. It's a beautiful terrain to explore.

A visit to the historical city of York is a must. Renowned for its medieval architecture, the magnificent York Minster and a myriad of museums, independent shops and exceptional eateries, you will not be disappointed. Then there's the chalk landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds, known to have inspired David Hockney. And with a packed calendar of events and festivals each year, including the Malton Food Festival, the Tour de Yorkshire and the Great Yorkshire Show, there's always something exciting to enjoy.

Our holiday cottages in Yorkshire are handpicked to ensure a luxurious and uniquely memorable experience. From dog-friendly cottages in the country to large family houses by the sea and romantic retreats in the city, we have a holiday in Yorkshire to suit everyone.
