Resting in a pretty village on the outskirts of York, this cottage is perfectly positioned to explore one of England's most historic cities as well as the picturesque landscapes of the North Yorkshire Moors, the Yorkshire Dales and coastal resorts

Bucolic bliss awaits at this gorgeous couple’s bolthole. A lovingly converted barn, it has a village green opposite, plus a mini-supermarket, traditional pubs and a sports centre with tennis courts all close by. Enjoy riverside walks from your doorstep, take advantage of the great local transport links to explore one of England's most historic cities – York is just 3.5 miles away – or drive further afield and you can discover the delights of the North Yorkshire Moors, Yorkshire Dales and the county’s coastal resorts.

A tasteful fusion of contemporary fittings, eclectic furnishings and original features make this a holiday home to treasure. Original beams and an exposed brick feature wall hint at the history of the building, while high-end touches such as automatic lighting on the landing and efficient air-source heating add convenience and comfort all year round.

Step into the entrance hall where you’ll find a handy ground-floor shower room, then on into a fully equipped kitchen that comes complete with an eye-level electric oven, induction hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and farmhouse-style table. Adjacent, the lounge is ultra-homely with comfortable seating, a Smart TV and fast internet.

When it’s time to sleep, head upstairs to a spacious bedroom with low, sloping ceilings, original beams and an inviting super-king-size bed. Large windows on each side bathe the room in light; after a good night’s rest take your time to awaken then, when you’re ready, you can kick-start your day with a refreshing shower in the en-suite.

Restore the balance after busy days out and enjoy laid-back evenings in your own private garden area – there’s outdoor furniture for al fresco dining. Alternatively, take a stroll to one of the village pubs for a warm Yorkshire welcome and a range of seasonal fare.

Excellent public transport links mean you can explore York – one of England’s best year-round locations – car-free: regular bus and train services run from the village into the ancient walled city that’s been the north's spiritual capital for 2,000 years! History seeps out of every cobbled street and all the top sites are easily reached on foot; alongside a fantastic range of fashionable shops, restaurants and bars, York Minster, The Shambles, Jorvik Viking Centre, the Railway Museum and Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms will all be on your must-do list. When you want to escape the crowds, take a wander around one of the city’s parks and gardens. Dean's Park is next to the Minster and the Yorkshire Museum Gardens is next to the River Ouse.

Yorkshire is, of course, England’s largest county and there’s much to explore elsewhere – the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and east coast are all within driving distance. The smaller cathedral city of Ripon is 23 miles north-west; alternatively, head 20 miles north-east to find Malton, or 18.5 miles west to Harrogate – both are gorgeous towns offering lots of lovely independent shops and eateries.

On the edge of the North York Moors, the pretty town of Kirkbymoorside (26 miles) has much to offer, including a weekly market. Beyond is a landscape like no other, a place of gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodlands and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. At the heart of the National Park, the famous Blakey Ridge affords some of the best views in the country.

Great location. Train station only 5mins away. Two pubs on doorstep with a CO OP shop. Accommodation excellent and owners have invested a lot in this converted barn. We had a wonderful few days at this stunning barn conversion, which is superbly appointed and presented beautifully. The cottage was a tasteful conversion which maintains the history of the building whilst providing all modern conveniences. The kitchen was very well equipped and having a downstairs shower room was very useful. Private garden was excellent particularly as we had our dog with us. The location is superb, in a very pretty village which is only 3 mileRead mores from York. We did not use our car during our visit as we were only a few minutes walk from the train station which had regular services to York. Hide
