Sitting in a quiet village in the stunning North York Moors surrounded by far-reaching views of the countryside, this converted stable is perfect for a rural getaway with friends or family wanting to explore the Moors on the numerous footpaths, bike trails and bridleways. As well as this, there are so many pretty towns and villages to visit on the North Yorkshire coast.

The cottage has a large, divided courtyard shared with one other holiday cottage, where you’ll find sun loungers to doze on and a BBQ. You can also wander through the nearby fields and meadow.

Nearby is a real ale pub offering home-cooked food, perfect if you feel like popping out for a drink or a hearty meal, and the ever-popular seaside resort of Whitby is just 3 miles away, where there’s heaps to see and do, including walking up the 199 Steps up to the Gothic abbey, pottering around the pretty harbour, and stopping off for a delicious lunch.

The cottage has been designed with guests’ comfort in mind and you’ll find thoughtful touches and contemporary design throughout sitting alongside stunning traditional features. Step inside into the stylish lounge, where there are exposed wooden beams and a wall of windows so you can sit and take in the views of the valley. Kick back on the comfortable sofas, put the Smart TV on and enjoy a chilled movie night together.

Next door is the rustic kitchen with everything you need to cook a special meal, including a range oven, and a dining table where you can create lasting memories. It too has huge windows that let in lots of light, and there’s access to a small, decked terrace outside which takes advantage of the stunning vista. Two of the three delightful double bedrooms are on the ground floor: one has an en-suite shower room, the other an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath, and the third gorgeous double bedroom is upstairs and has superb views.

On warm days, spend the afternoon lazing on a sunbed with a good book in the spacious courtyard. Sit on the decked terrace with a sundowner and fire up the BBQ and dine alfresco. Pack up a picnic and wander through the owners’ fields to the meadow, the perfect spot to enjoy the setting and wildlife.

Whitby's narrow twisting yards evolved over a thousand years ago to provide protection from Viking raiders and to help Whitby's smugglers evade the revenue men and tax collectors. They're a unique and much-loved design to this part of the UK. Be prepared as you walk under the arched alleyway into the Rose and Crown Yard to gain a real sense of the authentic maritime history of this ancient sea town. It is one of the oldest, narrowest and most twisting of Whitby's Gothic yards.

Probably the most visited and much-loved of Yorkshire's seaside resorts, Whitby is an idyllic location for a holiday. With its seaside heritage, excellent restaurants, independent shops and host of bars and cafes along its medieval streets, it has so much to offer the discerning holidaymaker. Playing host throughout history to Romans, Saxons, Celts and Danes amongst others, the town's rich heritage is immediately obvious. Straddling the River Esk and dominated by the 13th-century ruins of St Hilda's Abbey on the East Cliff, Whitby's crooked cobbled streets and picturesque harbour have been a magnet for artists and tourists alike for centuries. Providing the backdrop for some of Lewis Carroll's work, it was also famously the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Whitby is set on the beautiful North Yorkshire coastline; a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, you can indulge in a classic English seaside holiday. That's not to say it's stuck in the past; in fact, Yorkshire's coastal villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tearooms sitting alongside up-market restaurants and champagne bars.

Nearby Robin Hood's Bay (5.5 miles) is one of the most popular coastal locations in Yorkshire, or the UK for that matter. The village is a maze of cobbled streets and higgledy-piggledy houses which seem to tumble down towards the sea. Sandsend is 3 miles away, a gorgeous little seaside village which is well worth a visit during your stay. With its handsome promenade, long stretch of beach, several excellent eating options and a world-class day spa, you could happily spend your whole holiday here. Staithes and Runswick Bay are also all under 10 miles away, each with their own unique charm.

Head inland from Whitby and you can be in the heart of the North York Moors within minutes. Take a tour of the impossibly pretty towns and villages in the area, including Egton, Danby, Castleton, and Rosedale. Or head up on the high moorland of Castleton Rigg; we guarantee on a clear day, it will take your breath away.

The cottage was in a great quiet location but only a short drive from the coast and the North York Moors. It was warm and cosy to come back to after days out.
