A real home-away-from-home, this 18th century stone-built cottage offers a lovely holiday base, sitting on the edge of the picturesque village of Hackforth is the ideal retreat for families and friends.

Stay in this beautiful stone cottage studded within the idyllic village of Hackforth on the threshold of stunning Wensleydale. Sleeping six guests across three bedrooms, it is a wonderful choice for families and friendship groups seeking a rural setting for spending quality time together. The friendly owners have even provided a fantastic welcome pack of local produce and treats for your stay.

Beneath the traditional stone exterior and climbing ivy is a delightful retreat with wooden flooring underfoot and an overwhelming sense of cosy countryside living throughout. Timber beams, exposed stone and a roaring wood burner echo the overall homeliness in the lounge. Sink back on the sofas for family films relaxing together.

Double doors open to reveal the first of two dining spaces, and this one is a sheer treat for special mealtimes. An additional wood burner crackles invitingly from the inglenook fireplace to complete the cosy atmosphere.

Tiled flooring, wooden cabinetry and marble work surfaces have been seamlessly incorporated with all you could need for cooking including an electric Range oven and hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave. There is even a downstairs utility room with laundry facilities and ample storage for coats and boots. An archway reveals a functional dining area that’s flooded with natural light pouring in through the windows, providing a tranquil space for leisurely breakfasts.

Full-bellied and ready for slumber after a busy day, you’ll find three bedrooms by ascending the open staircase from the dining room. Children can stay in the bunk bedroom while one of the king-size bedrooms has its own en-suite shower room and spectacular views of the fields beyond the house, and the remaining bedroom offers a further king-size bed. There’s also an elegant bathroom with a shower over the bath.

Sunny afternoons call for BBQ meals and tall drinks in your private garden, or why not open the bi-fold doors and let the outside in for an al fresco vibe? Hackforth is a sleepy village studded between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, providing experienced hikers, ramblers and adrenaline seekers with ample opportunities for adventure. If walking is your thing, both destinations are something of a walkers paradise with many beautiful routes nearby. There are plenty of options for cycling too in Tour De Yorkshire country. The bravest amongst you will relish the chance to try caving and rock climbing, and the rivers and lakes within the national parks are renowned for their water sports.

When you need to refuel, stop at one of the area’s many excellent pubs and sample local fare. Michelin Star restaurants, bistro-style eateries and elegant gastropubs serving exotic dishes and imaginative vegetarian cuisine can be found at every turn.

The attractive town of Bedale 4 miles away is always worth a visit. Stop for a coffee before making your way around the towns antique shops and independent boutiques. Foodies will be delighted by the range of local produce, including beers and cheeses, on offer.

Nearby, the charming market town of Leyburn (9.5 miles) is an archetypical slice of Dales country life. Youll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain.

The nearby historic town of Richmond (9 miles) is similar in many ways and is sat in a lovely location along the River Swale. There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range of this holiday home. Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are both within 18 miles and the villages of West Burton and Askrigg are a 21.5-mile drive, so there are lots of choices for things to do if you want to get out and about.

We had a fabulous holiday. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. We ate out at the local pub (less than 5 mins walk) a couple of times and the locals are very welcoming and friendly. Gary, the owner, was in the pub on our first visit, and next day showed us the nearest dog walk (which is very close by) where they can be off the lead.
