Dating back to the mid-19th century, this stunning Victorian farmhouse offers a wonderful settlng for family gatherings and special occasions, surrounded by spectacular Yorkshire countryside.

Discover an exquisite Victorian farmhouse set on the outskirts of Richmond, a historic market town. Brimming with elegant country charm, this exceptional house provides the ultimate period backdrop to your special family get-together. Take a relaxing walk before descending on the local village pub for dinner. Afterwards, gather rosy-cheeked by the roaring fire to catch up with those dearest to you. This is a truly fabulous house made for making memories.

Dating back to the mid-19th century, this property was once the family home of the Earl and Countess of Ronaldshay. Oozing that elusive mix of classic style and contemporary comfort, antique furniture sits contentedly alongside modern pieces and artwork, flagstone flooring enjoys underfloor heating and every room has that soft Farrow and Ball appeal.

Ready to start exploring? Let's begin with the ground floor and the heart of the home, the sumptuous drawing room. This generous sophisticated room welcomes you like an old friend, wrapping you in a friendly warm embrace. Settle down by the large open fire with a glass of something fizzy, it's time to enjoy good company and conversation. This room leads to the conservatory where you can take in the extensive gardens and evening sun.

For the younger ones (and the grown-ups too) there's an additional games room to escape to. Set beside the kitchen this comfortable room features a TV and large L-shaped sofa to snuggle down on. Sky, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix are all available as well as board games and cards for some traditional off-line fun. Wi-Fi is also available if you can't drag the teens away from their devices. A Sonos sound system provides the background music throughout the ground floor.

Downstairs is also home to the kitchen and dining areas. As you would expect with a house of this calibre, the kitchen is a generous size and comes with everything you could need to conjure family feasts. Take delight in the sleek worktop, made from honed Zimbabwean granite. In addition to the AGA, you'll find a Smeg cooker with ceramic hob, a huge American-style fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave. A further utility room provides an additional fridge/freezer, perfect for storing drinks as well an additional dishwasher, very useful the morning after a special dinner. A laundry room on the first floor houses a washing machine, tumble dryer and ceiling-mounted clothes horse.

The property offers you the choice of several different dining areas. For informal occasions like breakfast and lunch, the large farmhouse dining table in the kitchen is perfect. French doors open out onto a courtyard where an afternoon tipple is a must in the warmer months. Just through from here is the breakfast room, offering a further light-filled space for dining - this is a great option for children, or vice-versa, when you're looking for a more peaceful dining experience.

For those special occasions when you want to gather everyone together to dine and have fun, the formal dining hall is waiting. A large extendable dining table will accommodate everyone, while flagstone flooring and a wood burner lend grandeur and warmth. Downstairs also includes a boot room, perfect for drying off those muddy walking boots after a day's hiking across nearby Swaledale. You'll find two handy downstairs cloakrooms too.

The farmhouse has nine decadent bedrooms to choose from, each one with a super comfortable bed and classic elegant look. There are eight bedrooms on the first floor and one on the ground floor. Bedroom 1 is the magnificent master suite encompassing a large bedroom with a super king-size bed and charming window seat with views across the gardens and beyond. It has access to a generous bathroom with freestanding bath and separate shower. Bedrooms 2 and 4 are both charming twin rooms with 2 full-size beds. They share access to a bathroom with a large free-standing bath and separate walk-in shower. Bedroom 3 boasts a further super king-size bed with an en-suite shower room and WC.

Bedroom 5 offers another super king-size bed which can also be configured as two singles. This room enjoys an en-suite bathroom with a roll-top bath. Bedroom 6 is another twin room which shares a bathroom with bedroom 7, a sweet little room with a full-size single bed and trundle pull out bed below. This room will accommodate two people comfortably. The final bedroom on this floor is bedroom 8 (accessed via the laundry room). It features a double bed and en-suite bathroom.

Bedroom 9 is a twin room located on ground level. This room has access to its own bathroom with a large walk-in shower.

Now that we've taken a tour around this stunning home, let's discover the delights of the grounds. The house is set within a beautifully maintained walled garden. Roam Alice in Wonderland style, taking in the sights and sounds of an English country garden. Garden furniture is provided so you can grab a glass of champagne and settle down for your evening sundowner. Cyclists will appreciate the secure bicycle storage area. Try some of the nearby Tour De France / Yorkshire routes while you're here.

The farmhouse is in a wonderful location, equidistant between the historic market town of Richmond and the pretty village of Gilling West. Stroll to Gilling via the off-road path and you have the choice of two welcoming village pubs. It's also the perfect location if you enjoy walking or cycling. There are lots of scenic routes from the doorstep and, in fact, the village is well-known as a great starting point for walking - seasoned hikers come from miles around to set off from here.

This large luxury property is just 1 mile away from Richmond, a historic market town with much to offer the discerning holidaymaker. Within walking distance, explore the cobbled market square or head up towards Richmond Castle for a slice of Yorkshire history. The Station in Richmond is a stunning Victorian building which holds an art gallery, cafe, cinema and local artisan shops, well worth a visit. You can go on a lovely circular walk from here along the river and back.

Just a short drive through Richmond takes you into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Head up towards Reeth (11.5 miles) and on towards Hawes (28.5 miles) in Wensleydale for a true taste of this magnificent countryside. North of the property is the charming town of Barnard Castle (12.5 miles). Recently listed as one of the top 10 places to live in the UK, it's a pretty little place with a host of shops, cafes and pubs to explore. The excellent Bowes Museum is here and is well worth a visit. And as the name would suggest, there's a historic castle to explore too.

Further south, you'll find the pretty market town of Northallerton (18 miles) where handsome Georgian houses line the long main street. The wonderful Betty's Tearooms is here, as is a fantastic local deli, Lewis and Cooper's Food Emporium and the quintessentially Yorkshire department store of Barkers. And if you feel like a spot of pampering, there's also a relaxing spa just a few miles down the road.

A stunning location for a family get together! Olliver House is beautiful inside and out, decorated and furnished to a high standard. The bedding was lovely & there was plenty of kitchen equipment. Olliver House is a lovely house it has everything we needed for a celebration of my 65th birthday with the family including 4 grandchildren. Location was great. The bedrooms were very comfortable with lovely bathrooms and showers. Downstairs the underfloor heating was very efficient. A couple of theRead more rooms had radiator problems - one off and one with air in the system. We were very unfortunate that the main electric oven didnt work (and we assume was not reported by the previous users). We had never cooked in an Aga before so cooking for 16 using a small oven/grill and an Aga that took well over an hour to heat up was extremely stressful and did take the gloss off the weekend and if brutally Im honest ruined an otherwise lovely celebration meal. We used food supplied by Georgina Anderson catering service for the special 65th celebration meal. Id highly recommend the food. Unfortunately Georgina was double booked so we simply had to reheat 12 starters and 12 mains. Due to the lack of oven and the slow heat up of the Aga from cold it was anything but simple. We got to eat the starters at 9 pm and mains at 10pm rather than 8 pm The lounge and conservatory were lovely communal areas. The kitchen and attached side room were great communal spaces for most meals. Richmond Station and the walk to Easby Abbey was a highlight. The nearby Moors and Dales are beautiful and the locals all very friendly. The Caretaker was punctual helpful and very friendly too. Altogether a great place to stay. We did manage a great Sunday roast with the Aga and small oven but with a working main oven and a few more saucepan lids Olliver House would have got a 10 out of 10. The Aga should have a label on it and in the instructions saying Dont switch off for people like us that arent use to them. Also a suggestion in the house instructions of 10 per broken glass seemed a bit OTT as they didnt appear to be Dartington glass I was too annoyed by the lack of oven to comply.Joining instructions should say. Drive 500 yards into the estate, Olliver House is the large house on the left. Drive towards the wrought iron gates which will open automatically. Id give Olliver House A good 9/10 thats assuming 2 glasses arent deducted from our security deposit. Im sure the owners will get the oven fixed or replaced. Personally Id suggest 2 good conventional ovens over an Aga any day. When the oven gets fixed Id highly recommend Olliver House.

Response from Gorgeous Cottages:

Dear Kevin, thank you for your 9/10 review and feedback, we do appreciate this as we always strive to maintain our high standards. There is information in the house manual for the Aga which asks guests not to change any settings, however the owner is going to further clarify this and ask that guests do not switch off the Aga, which is set to remain on, at a constant temperature. With regards to the oven and the radiators, these issues have now been resolved and the owner would like to apologise that there were problems during your stay. There should be a lid for each saucepan and the owner is also going to check this is still the case. We are pleased that you would recommend Olliver House and look forward to welcoming you back to Yorkshire for another stay soon. Take care, Maureen. Hide

Hi AndrewThank you for taking the time to send in your review. We are delighted you had a fantastic weekend with your family ( it is the perfect place to have a good old gathering!) Olliver has many rooms for entertaining with the main sitting room being able to easily accommodate 18 people on different types of sofas/chairs/stools around the room . With regards to the kitchen terrace, if more seating is required outside then we recommend moving the kitchen chairs outside as necessary. We do appreciate you sending in your comments as we do value all our guests feedback and we have spoken with the owner, who has taken your comments on board.
