This homely yet stylish farmhouse located in the beautiful West Yorkshire countryside offers a peaceful retreat for a group of six, plus a canine companion, to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Tucked away in the small village of Greetland on the outskirts of the Sowerby Bridge, this is the perfect base for families and friends looking to lose themselves in the beauty of West Yorkshire by walking the magnificent footpaths from the doorstep or by slipping into the wood-fired hot tub that’s surrounded by open countryside views.

Set within the Peak District National Park and surrounded by traditional Yorkshire market towns, there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. For those who love nothing better than getting their boots mucky, 50 miles of moors and valleys along the stunning Calderdale Way wait to be explored.

At the end of a long day’s adventure, there’s no better welcome for weary walking muscles than the plush comfy seating across the three lounge areas. Flop down on the lovely sofa in the cinema room and kick back with some locally sourced snacks as you enjoy the latest blockbuster on the Smart TV. Play video games on the Smart TV/DVD with a PS4 in the first lounge with its gorgeous high vaulted ceilings and backdrop of unrivalled countryside views, or hunker down in front of the roaring wood burner in the snug/second lounge with its deep cushioned sofas and Smart TV that ensures the cosiest of nights in.

Unpack your delicious local goodies on the breakfast bar that takes pride of place in the centre of the contemporary farmhouse-style kitchen before unlocking your inner culinary genius to rustle up a fabulous feast aided by a plethora of appliances, including a characterful AGA. Enjoy your efforts by gathering the gang around the grand table beneath the striking chandelier in the dining room that’s dressed for the occasion in a regal colour palette of deep colours that create an unforgettable dining experience.

Lose yourself in superb views across the surrounding rolling countryside from almost every window in each of the three lovingly furnished bedrooms upstairs. The master king-size bedroom features crisp white linens ensuring a peaceful night’s rest, as well as a contemporary en-suite that’s perfect for starting a day’s adventure with an invigorating shower. Both equally as sumptuous as the master, you’ll also find an en-suite double and a final double bedroom along the landing to choose from.

For anyone who loves the great outdoors, the large, enclosed garden is just the place for them. Dine alfresco on the patio, sharing stories of the day’s adventures over something chilled as children let off some steam exploring the large lawn and children's play area with swings and slides. No day would be complete without a long soak in the wood-fired hot tub, where you can sit back and admire your countryside views.

Halifax is a thriving market town and was once the centre of the wool trade in Victorian England. Many of the opulent buildings and monuments from this time can still be seen as you walk around the town, including Piece Hall (4 miles), a magnificent Georgian building, which was once the place where weavers sold their cloth. Nowadays, it’s a fabulous place to grab a tasty bite to eat or peruse the independent shops and boutiques, as well as catch some outdoor performances.

Other impressive buildings include Halifax Minster (4 miles), the town’s gothic church, the Grade II-listed Halifax Town Hall, and Shibden Hall (4 miles), a 15th-century historic home surrounded by a glorious park, once home to the ‘first modern lesbian’, Anne Lister, who wrote her secret diaries there. The parkland is an excellent place to spend a day, where you can walk beside the pretty flowerbeds, row across the mere or ride on the miniature train which will delight any children in your party. Kids will also love Eureka! The National Children’s Museum (4.5 miles) which is sure to capture their imaginations with its 400 interactive exhibits.

If you enjoy food, make sure to visit Halifax’s Borough Market 4 miles away, which is a stunning Grade II-listed building hosting an award-winning covered market throughout the week. Sample some local produce and pick up a tasty treat to enjoy back at your luxury holiday cottage.

There is enough to do in Halifax itself to fill a whole holiday, however, if you want to venture further afield, Huddersfield (7 miles) and Bradford (16.5 miles) are easily accessible, or you could set out to explore the awe-inspiring 50 miles of moors and valleys along the stunning Calderdale Way (3 miles).

Very comfortable accommodation Lots of space inside and out although the awful weather prevented us from utilising the latter. House was warm and well equipped. Beds and showers all excellent. Ideal venue for Christmas. Highly recommended

We loved staying at Prospect House for the week. Such a great property and very high standard of fixtures & decoration. Great location for walks around Greetland, Norland and Ripponden with a couple pubs within easy walking distance that both serve decent quality pub food.
