Once used as a saddlers, this delightful five-bedroom townhouse is now the perfect venue for multi-generational get-togethers.

This fabulous five-bedroom period townhouse is located in the heart of an attractive North York Moors village. It is the perfect large luxury cottage in Yorkshire for families and groups of friends. And in 2014, the cottage was awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for consistently excellent reviews.

This historical building actually dates back to 1793 when it was used as a Saddlers. Many of the original features have been restored including wonderful oak beams from Whitby ships and a huge inglenook fireplace in the dining room. The decor and furnishings throughout are contemporary but the inherent character of the house remains.

The accommodation is set across three floors. Downstairs you'll find an open-plan kitchen and dining area with a cosy wood burner in the fireplace, perfect for the colder months. There is a generous lounge complete with all of the creature comforts you would expect including a large TV with DVD. The house also includes an MP3 docking station, Nintendo Wii, a PS3 for the kids (or the grown-ups!) and a PC available for guest's use.

There are three double bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor. The second floor has a further two bedrooms (a twin and a double with additional single bed) and a shower room with separate WC.

There is a charming patio area to the rear of the cottage which includes patio furniture and a BBQ for guest's use. The front of the property faces the Main Street in Pickering and is a delightful spot to watch the world go by.

  • 5 bedrooms - 4 doubles (one with additional single bed) and 1 twin
  • 1 bathroom and 1 shower room
  • Oven and hob, fridge
  • TV, DVD, MP3 docking station, Nintendo Wii, PS3 and PC
  • Wood burner - logs and kindling available to buy in the local area
  • Patio with furniture and BBQ
  • Off-road parking for 1 car, further parking available within a couple of minutes' walk
  • Wi-Fi included
  • Travel cot and highchair
  • Shops and eateries within a mile
  • Regret no pets

All-ages attractions with a twist include Flamingo Land (4.5 miles), where you can spend the morning on a roller coaster and the afternoon discovering the animals at the zoo, and Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum (7 miles), a fascinating historical experience housed within a former WW2 prisoner-of-war camp. Spend a day strolling through the magnificent stately home and grounds of Castle Howard (16 miles). Breathe in the sea air at Scarborough (18 miles) or board the North York Moors Railway from Pickering Station to alight at Whitby.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Railway Cottage! It was clean, tidy and a real home-from-home so easy to relax in. The local amenities were lovely with choice of food and drinks. The cottage was easy to find with free parking close by. We were a group of 9 women and there was plenty of room for us all. We will certainly be visiting again! :)

When we arrived at 4pm the cleaners were still in the property with bedding and towels being dried on the radiators. The whole place smelt musty and run down and in our opinion well overdue for a complete refurbishment. We did not like the property at all so we decided not to stay and checked into aRead more local hotel.
