This compact but very sweet one-bedroom holiday cottage is located in the heart of Rosedale Abbey; a handsome little village at the geographical centre of the North York Moors. With its boutique-style bedroom, luxurious en-suite, and small but comfortable lounge this is the perfect romantic escape for active couples looking to get away to the country. And it's all within easy walking distance of three great pubs, two cafes, and a gallery. Not only this, the cottage welcomes two dogs too so you can experience great adventures with your canine companions.

Dating back to 1850, this gorgeous one-bedroom bolthole has a luxury hotel ambience with all of the additional benefits of a small self-catering country cottage. The ground-floor accommodation consists of a charming sitting room showcasing paintings by local artists on the walls and with a feature fireplace. Other contemporary comforts include free Wi-Fi, an iPod docking station and a variety of games, books and toys so there's plenty to keep you occupied. There are also local maps for the walkers among you. This leads through to a compact but charming kitchen with a dishwasher included. Upstairs, the first floor of the cottage is taken up entirely by a beautiful double-height bedroom and spacious en-suite. Please note, the stairs in the cottage are quite steep so please take this into consideration when booking.

It's lovely and light upstairs, with two windows affording views to Hamer Moor across Rosedale Abbey. A king-size bed, TV and hotel-quality bed linen adds a touch of indulgence. The en-suite is stylish with clean lines, a walk-in high-pressure shower and complimentary toiletries completing the luxury cottage feel. There is also a large cupboard with a clothes washer and dryer.

Outside, the cottage has a small southeast-facing unfenced patio accessed via a right-of-way through a neighbour's private garden (not for public use); and facing right onto the lovely medieval churchyard of the old Priory grounds. There are also pretty views across Rosedale Abbey's village green and onto the Moors that surround the little village. From the green, five country lanes head off to all points of the compass, taking you to beautiful locations across the North York Moors and beyond. The cottage also has some off-road parking for added convenience.

The cottage enjoys a great location in Rosedale Abbey, a picturesque North York Moors village. There is a charming village green and several cafes and pubs, all within a few hundred yards of the property. Rosedale Abbey is famously at the centre of five converging lanes taking you off in different directions across the moors. The first takes you towards Blakey Ridge and then onwards to Castleton, Danby Dale and the other scenic villages of the Upper Esk Valley. The view from the top of Blakey Ridge is one of the finest across the whole of the North York Moors.

The second lane takes you out of the village towards the Vale of Pickering and the market towns of Malton (18.5 miles), Pickering (10.5 miles) and Helmsley (13.5 miles); together with trips to Scarborough (28 miles), Castle Howard (19.5 miles) or York (33 miles). The nostalgic North York Moors Railway starts in Pickering where you can catch a steam train to Whitby and back again through some of the most picturesque countryside in Yorkshire. Helmsley features the nationally renowned Verbena Day Spa if you fancy a little pampering during your holiday.

The third takes you out across the moors to Egton Bridge (8.5 miles) and then on to Grosmont (11 miles) continuing onwards to Goathland (13 miles), the location for 'Aidensfield' in the 'Heartbeat' television series. You can also visit the seaside delights of Staithes, Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood's Bay, as well as the famous coastal town of Whitby, all within 21 miles from the cottage.

The fifth choice is to head out of Rosedale Abbey towards Farndale (5.5 miles) and Hutton-le-Hole (4.5 miles), one of the prettiest villages in the North York Moors.

We had the most amazing stay at Penzola (Rosella) Cottage. The cottage is tastefully decorated, cosy, warm and well equipped with everything you need. The new kitchen is stunning. We holiday in Rosedale several times a year as its a great base for walking, lovely local pubs, village store and tearooms. Friendly neighbours and locals made for a veryRead more relaxing stay with our 2 Labradors. Highly recommend the cottage and we will definitely be booking another stay again soon. The cottage is in a wonderful area. Rosedale itself is beautiful. The cottage could do with a bit of TLC. It was ideal for a couple of nights but we couldn`t of stayed any longer than that.

Cozy cottage in a fantastic location. Quite compact and the stairs are steep as advertised. Bed was very comfy, we slept well. No Cafetire provided and kitchen is compact. The Coach House was very friendly, great beer & food. Abbey Stores was ok but best to bring specific ingredients if you need them. We enjoyed the Andy Goldsworthy "Hanging StonesRead more" walk. The upstairs was the best part of the cottage which was light and airey with the added bonus of a TV. The downstairs was a disappointment with a very small kitchen with dust and dirt issues Location was fantastic.
