  • 5-star converted Hay Barn sleeping 6
  • Located in the pretty village of Fangfoss ideal for exploring York and the Yorkshire Coast
  • Can be hired alongside sister cottage 'The Old Granary' to accommodate larger parties of up to 12 guests
Property code: 37258

Situated in the picturesque village of Fangfoss in the Yorkshire Wolds, this stunning converted hay-barn is a great property for friends or families who want to explore the attractive rural surroundings and the many delightful towns and villages nearby. The village pub and a play area are only a few hundred metres away, so kids and adults alike will be pleased with the property’s location. The village of Fangfoss is only a small community, but every September they play host to Fangfest, celebrating local craftspeople and their traditional crafts. Yorkshire is well-known for its National Parks, but The Wolds should not be overlooked as they are just as beautiful and definitely worth exploring. The chalk landscapes, dry valleys, varied wildlife and bustling market towns mean there is plenty on offer for everyone and The Yorkshire Wolds Way is part of the National Trail network. The Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is 10 miles away and offers yet more walking and cycling opportunities. 12 miles away is the ancient, walled city of York, which has lots of attractions for guests of all ages. Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast (37 miles) is further afield but is worth the drive for a little taste of the rugged Yorkshire coast. Please note: If you are part of a big group, you can rent this property alongside The Old Granary to sleep 12 guests in total.

One of five lovingly renovated farm buildings, this cottage’s original features and bespoke woodwork add charm and character throughout. The country-cottage style is welcoming and relaxing, whilst the odd touch of luxury allows you to make the most of your time away.

The large open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner is light and airy due to the large windows allowing light to flood in. The kitchen is attractive and well-equipped, allowing you to cater for your guests’ needs, whilst the unique dining table provides plenty of seating. Comfy seating in the lounge provides somewhere to relax at the end of the day and warm up in front of the wood burner.

The first of the three bedrooms is on the ground floor; it is a bright, elegant room with an en-suite shower room. Upstairs, there are two more spacious, king-size rooms, both with the luxury of freestanding baths in the main bedroom area and en-suite shower rooms.

Through the stable door in the kitchen, there is a private, courtyard garden with dining furniture. There is also a shared indoor barn which is set up as a games room with snooker, air hockey, table football and table tennis.

The jewel in North Yorkshire's crown, we think York (12 miles) is one of the best short break destinations in England and is a favourite amongst even the most seasoned of travellers. This ancient walled city has been the north's spiritual capital for 2,000 years, but that's not to say it is stuck in the past; York's affluent population and its influx of tourist pounds has helped to create a cultural and commercial oasis. History seeps out of every cobbled street, but the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Everywhere in York is easily reachable by foot as this small but perfectly formed city houses most of its main attractions within the city walls. Middle Ages' town planning means it can take quite some time to get your bearings but finding your way around the labyrinth of warped streets is part of the fun. Make sure you take in York Minster, The Shambles, the Railway Museum and Bettys tea room whilst you're there.

If you are looking for outside space in which to relax, you have the choice of a number of parks and gardens, including Dean's Park next to the Minster, the Yorkshire Museum Gardens and next to the River Ouse, and slightly further afield, Rowntree Park with its children's playground, tennis courts and bowling green.

And what's more, it really is a year-round location. Summer days can be spent lounging in one of the gorgeous parks and in the autumn, York comes alive with shop windows sparkling in the dusky light. Its central location also makes a great base from which to explore the rest of glorious Yorkshire, with the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Yorkshire coastline all within easy reach for beautiful walks and adventurous days out.

If walking or cycling is your thing, there are lots of beautiful paths and routes in the area. If you fancy serious hiking, the North York Moors landscape offers some of the best trails in the country. Take a trip up to the top of the high moorlands around Blakey Ridge (35 miles) and breathe in that clear Yorkshire air.

Head 14.5 miles north to find Malton, another gorgeous market town offering lots of lovely independent shops and cafes to indulge in, or the charming market town of Beverley with its winding streets and stunning Minster is a great option at 12.5 miles away. The beautiful market town of Helmsley (29 miles) is well worth a visit and is considered a haven for foodies.

As a family of 5, we had plenty of space, the beds were very comfy and the kitchen was well equipped (including a washer dryer). The location was exactly what we were after: a quiet escape but with close proximity to supermarkets, York and plenty of activities/days out within 20-40 minutes. The local playground was brilliant. The only improvement wRead moreould be the internet, which wasnt always reliable. We thankfully didnt need to work during our stay but was hard to connect at times. Hide
