A peaceful place to rest and feel at home in this sweet, cosy cottage with wood burner for cosy evenings and is close to the town of Richmond.

Nestled in the peaceful village of Brompton-on-Swale, to the east of market town Richmond, this contemporary, cosy cottage is the perfect romantic retreat for couples. With the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the west and the North York Moors National Park to the east, you can immerse yourselves in the natural beauty and tranquillity of the surrounding countryside, whilst enjoying quality time together away from your hectic everyday life. It is ideal for keen walkers and cyclists alike with a range of routes and trails nearby to suit all abilities. Whether you want waterfalls, rivers, woodland or rolling green hills, this area has it all and is teeming with stunning flora and fauna. There is also plenty of history and sites of interest to keep historians happy, so be sure to bring your camera. There is a shop and pub within a few hundred metres of the property, so you can pick up some supplies or treat yourselves to a pint of ale and a good meal at the end of a busy day.

This one-storey cottage has been beautifully decorated to create bright and airy accommodation for two people. White walls, neutral décor and the odd pop of colour create a contemporary-cottage feel that is welcoming and the warm wooden tones and original features add character.

You enter through a small porch and from here you step down into the lounge/diner. Original beams are painted white to add light, whilst the traditional fireplace and the wood burner are the focal point for the room. The two comfy sofas are the perfect place to relax of an evening, either to watch TV, read a book or play a board game. The small dining table provided ample space for a romantic dinner for two. Stepping up into the next room, you will find the well-equipped, beautifully designed kitchen complete with Belfast sink. It has everything you’ll need to cook up some treats for both of you to enjoy.

Moving through into the bedroom, you will find a super king-size bed (which can be made up as a twin on request), fitted wardrobes and a dressing table. The bedroom is bright and airy with a cool colour scheme creating a restful space. The en-suite bathroom is also elegant and modern with a large shower over the bath.

Outside, there is a delightful, sunny courtyard garden with a traditional Yorkshire stone wall adding character. There is dining furniture for al fresco dining, a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Whilst you’re allowed to unload from the private lane which leads to the cottage, parking is prohibited here, but there is roadside parking available on the main road.

  • 1 bedroom - super-king-size zip-and-link (which can be made up as a twin on request)

Richmond (3.5 miles) is a charming market town on the borders of Wensleydale and Swaledale. It boasts an 11th-century castle, fine Georgian architecture, an historic Georgian theatre and a large cobbled market square as some of its many attractions. Stroll into town for a cup of Yorkshire tea at one of the many tea rooms there or pop over for dinner at one of the excellent restaurants.

The gorgeous River Swale runs through the town and across the river, less than a mile, are the River Swale Waterfalls. You can walk in either direction along the river and deep into the countryside without having to go anywhere near the car. We also recommend exploring the restored former Richmond Railway Station which has lots to entertain young and old including a small cinema, cafe/restaurant, gallery, microbrewery and artisan bakery.

Richmond is also known as 'The Gateway to the Dales' so expect stunning Dales scenery within minutes of leaving the town. Peppering this glorious countryside are countless attractive little towns and villages and if you enjoy a bit of surreal entertainment, how about visit to the quite brilliant Forbidden Corner, an attraction full of statues and hidden surprises, 17 miles away near Middleham.

The historic village of Easby, home to Easby Abbey is just 2.5 miles away. Set on the banks of the River Swale, the Abbey is the perfect spot for a picnic in the summer months. There are lots of other breathtaking historical sites to explore in the Dales, including the stunning Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, 26 miles, a World Heritage Site.

This is a superb area for walkers and cyclists with many routes from the doorstep or just a short distance away including Alfred Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast Walk which passes close by. And with York, Harrogate and the North York Moors all within easy striking distance (under an hour’s drive on a clear run) you have lots of choice for day trips!

A great little cottage within walking distance of a cosy pub - what more could you want! This is well-appointed accommodation that's comfortable and warm to return to after a day on the Dales in February! A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Lovely week away, very chilled location and the cottage had everything you could wish for. Our second time in the area and it certainly won't be our last. If you are a veteran, I would highly recommend this property due to the hosts background. Plenty to do in the area. Great fish and chip shop in Richmond 5 min drive away and the Green Howards MusRead moreeum is well worth a visit. The pub in Brompton on Swale only takes cash, no card payments. Overall, a brilliant chill out week Hide

Cosy little cottage that was well equipped and general cleanliness was good. Gas boiler needs fixing/replacing to reduce the loud clanking noises. Would recommend to a friend if pricing was reduced to better reflect location/ facilities.

Lovely little cottage with everything you need for a getaway. Parking is easy on the road. I would say the lounge/diner is smaller than appears in the photos but the bathroom/bedroom/kitchen are good size.
