Set by a babbling brook in the Yorkshire Dales, this delightful barn conversion makes a fabulous holiday home for a family looking for a relaxing getaway close to a quaint picture-postcard village.

Located in a picture-postcard village just a few miles from the vibrant town of Settle, this characterful three-bedroom stone barn conversion enjoys peace and tranquillity by a babbling brook in the Yorkshire Dales. It is perfect for families who want to be close to nature but have all the comforts of a charming market town close by.

Inside, the barn has an upside-down layout which makes the most of the bright open-plan living space. Make your way up the bespoke oak and glass staircase to the living area. Set on the first floor this large room boasts a stunning vaulted ceiling with lots of light streaming in from its various windows. Its home to a lounge, kitchen and dining area and has warm oak flooring throughout.

The living room sits at one end and features a large corner sofa, just perfect for snuggling up on together to catch a family movie. There's a living flame fire too for those cosy nights in. A Smart TV with DVD is provided, and Wi-Fi is available too, a must if you have any teens in tow. There's also an iPod dock so you can bring along your holiday playlist.

The modern kitchen has glossy units and a sleek glass work-top giving it a fresh and inviting look. All mod cons are included, so you'll find a dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge/freezer and microwave. The cupboards are also well-stocked with everything you'll need to cook up a family meal. The dining table sits in the kitchen and again, echoes that fresh, contemporary look.

All of the bedrooms in the property are downstairs, a king-size, double and a twin. All of the beds are dressed in crisp bedding and have warm oak flooring underfoot. The family bathroom is also on the ground level and features a bath and separate walk-in shower. Underfloor heating keeps your toes nice and warm in here.

This homely barn has much to love outside too with a mature lawned garden leading down to the river. The stepping stones which gave the barn its name are just next to the building. There's a patio area with table and chairs set right by the water, a heavenly spot for those long al fresco lunches in the sun. A BBQ is provided for your use, and if you're a keen cyclist, there's lockable storage available in the garden too.

  • 3 bedrooms – 1 king-size, 1 double, 1 twin
  • Dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge/freezer, microwave, oven

  • TV, DVD, iPod dock

The barn is located in Stainforth in the shire of Ribblesdale, part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We think it's one of the Dale's prettiest villages with its traditional stone cottages, narrow lanes and a cosy village pub dating back to the 19th century. And as you would expect, the surrounding countryside here is magnificent, perfect if you want to strike out from the cottage in your walking boots or on your bicycle.

Only 2.5 miles away you'll find the vibrant market town of Settle, home to a myriad of lovely cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops. There's also a thriving market held in the town every Tuesday, the perfect place to pick up everything from flowers to dinner that night. Just outside of town you can hop on the Settle to Carlisle railway, one of the most scenic routes in the UK which takes you over the well-known Ribblehead Viaduct.

Beyond Settle, you have the exquisite delights of the Yorkshire Dales. It's a true walker's paradise here and you are very close to the famous Three Peaks. If you're more of a roamer than a rambler, try a stroll around the grounds of nearby Bolton Abbey (24 miles). These gorgeous ruins provide the backdrop to a particularly beautiful part of the Dales and are well worth a visit.

Stepping stones barn is a wonderful place to spend a relaxing week. The cottage has everything you could need and is spotlessly clean. The beds are all very comfortable as is the sofa in the lounge. The location of the house is ideal to explore the dales or even go to the Lake District.

Lovely cottage situated within Stainforth Village, next to river complete with stepping stones. Convenient for walking in the 3-peaks area. Good local pub. Parking a bit tight for more than one vehicle, but other options available within the village. Only one loo/shower room, so busy times need managing if you have a full complement of 6.

Really enjoyed our stay at stepping stones barn, all the rooms were of a high standard and we enjoyed the floor arrangements which saved lugging cases upstairs as you enter on the bedroom level therefore also enjoying great views from the kitchen area . The garden is only small but adequate for sitting outside for snacks and drinks. The village is Read moreclean and quiet with some very nice cottages / houses ,and a very nice pub serving nice meals and good beer. Hide

First time visiting one of Gorgeous Cottages properties and if this is an example we will definitely be using them again. We have stayed in many self-catering properties in the UK and many gites in France and this property excelled anything we have ever used. First class in every way and could not find any fault at all.

Lovely barn. Only down side is garden, which is not directly outside the house and therefore a faff. The local pub in Stainforth did not offer a menu which appealed and therefore we did not use it, which was a bit disappointing. There is no shop in the village but we were aware of this and it did not detract from our enjoyment.

A lovely stay at Stepping Stones Barn over Easter 2018. The barn is lovely, very clean and well equipped. 3 good sized bedrooms, and an upside-down layout meaning the living area upstairs benefits from the exposed ceiling space. Location is perfect with pub in the village and ideal for walks directly from the front door. Close to Settle also for laRead morerger town requirements ( chemist, swimming pool etc).Contact with owner was very easy also (for combination to get the key).Overall, a truly lovely accommodation in a very peaceful and relaxing location.
