If you’re looking for a romantic place to stay that has the wow factor, look no further than this incredible retreat. A luxury boathouse nestled on the edge of a lake surrounded by stunning wildlife and country views, it’s the perfect place to rest, relax and treat your loved one.

Inside, the boathouse has a gorgeous living area, a luxurious king-size bedroom, and a contemporary shower room. Outside are two decked verandas where you can sit and enjoy being among nature with a glass of something chilled, as well as a luxurious hot tub for the ultimate relaxing indulgence.

If you do decide to leave at any point, there’s a lovely local pub just down the road and pretty country walks nearby. Head out and explore the wonderful market town of Richmond, less than 3 miles away, and Barnard Castle is slightly further afield for a slice of local history.

Then head back to the boathouse where there are luxury features throughout this unique place to stay. Walk along the fairy-light lit path to your slice of paradise, floating gently on the water. Step aboard and go into the chic open-plan living space comprising a lounge/kitchen/diner with high-end features throughout, including desirable artwork, unique furniture, soft furnishings and wooden floors. You’ll have views on every side.

Cook delicious romantic meals in the sleek, contemporary kitchen and enjoy them together at the dining table made for two. Then take your drink outside through the sliding doors to sit in the incredible setting among wildlife on the veranda. Later, curl up on the comfortable sofa and catch up on your favourite Netflix series on the Smart TV before heading to bed in the king-size bedroom, where there are more sumptuous furnishings.

After a peaceful night’s sleep, wake up in the four-poster bed adorned with fairy lights in the bedroom, where sliding doors take you outside to the second veranda, the perfect spot for enjoying your first cup of coffee while the ducks come over and say hi. The boathouse also has a smart shower room for you to use.

Soak up the sun from the loungers on the raised deck, have a snooze or finally read that book you’ve been looking forward to. For the most relaxing treat, while away an afternoon sitting in the log burning hot tub or laze under the evening sky and gaze at the stars.

Richmond is a charming market town on the borders of Wensleydale and Swaledale. It boasts an 11th-century castle, fine Georgian architecture, a historic Georgian theatre, and a large cobbled market square as some of its many attractions. Stroll into town for a cup of Yorkshire tea at one of the many tearooms or pop over for dinner at one of the excellent restaurants.

The gorgeous River Swale runs through the town and, across the river – less than 1 mile – you’ll find the River Swale Waterfalls. You can walk in either direction along the river and deep into the countryside without having to go anywhere near the car. We also recommend exploring the restored former Richmond Railway Station which has lots to entertain young and old including a small cinema, a cafe/restaurant, a gallery, a microbrewery and an artisan bakery.

Richmond is also known as 'The Gateway to the Dales' so expect stunning Dales scenery within minutes of leaving the town. Peppering this glorious countryside are countless attractive little towns and villages and, if you enjoy a bit of surreal entertainment, how about a visit to the quite brilliant Forbidden Corner, an attraction full of statues and hidden surprises, 14 miles away near Middleham?

The historic village of Easby, home to Easby Abbey is just 2 miles away. Set on the banks of the River Swale, the abbey is the perfect spot for a picnic in the summer months. There are lots of other breathtaking historic sites to explore in the Dales, including the stunning Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden (30 miles), a World Heritage Site.

This is a superb area for walkers and cyclists with many routes from the doorstep or just a short distance away, including Alfred Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast Walk which passes close by. And with York, Harrogate and the North York Moors all within easy striking distance (under an hour’s drive on a clear run), you have lots of choice for day trips!
