This stylishly converted bijou-style property promises an unforgettable couple's retreat in a truly romantic setting, surrounded by spectacular countryside, picturesque villages, and the coast within an hour's drive.

Originally a historic stone barn, this property is a stylish and elegant one-bedroom holiday cottage which is the perfect couples' retreat with its outdoor hot tub and luxurious interiors. It has a gorgeous setting too, situated on the grounds of a large Yorkshire estate with a pretty village and foodie pub both within easy walking distance.

As the name would suggest, this handsome old building was once used as a storage space for the local farm's produce and livestock. The inherent character and charm of the building have been retained with exposed stone walls, beams and stone flooring giving it an authentic and rustic appeal. This has been blended effortlessly with a chic and contemporary style boasting sumptuous furnishings and a top-class finish. Inside you'll find a charming open-plan layout which is home to the lounge, kitchen and dining area. This bijou space has been perfectly designed to make maximum use of the space, with light streaming in through the large arched doorway.

There's a comfortable sofa to snuggle up on, just the right size for two. You can catch a movie on the TV/DVD player and Wi-Fi is also available throughout. In the kitchen, bright white units are complemented with sleek black worktops. Next to it sits a breakfast bar-style table and chairs, perfect for breakfast or a pre-dinner glass of bubbly!

The beautiful bedroom is set behind the elegant arched wooden doors, a real wow factor room with its king-size four-poster bed, dramatic dark grey feature wall and wet room-style en-suite. No need to rush in here, take your time and enjoy a few lazy mornings in bed.

Outside, you will find your own private hot tub, available throughout the year; there are few things more pleasant than sinking into warm water outside, particularly when it's cold or even snowing all around you.

To the front of the cottage is a large shared courtyard, another very pleasant and sheltered space to settle down with the papers. Beyond the gardens, guests are more than welcome to walk around the estate and meet the local wildlife. The cross-country walk by the church and down to the village pub is highly recommended too!

  • 1 king-size bedroom

The property has a beautiful location set within a large estate on the cusp of the Yorkshire Dales. With the coast and the city of York within driving distance, it's an ideal basecamp from which to strike out and discover these unique Yorkshire locations. Reeth (15 miles) and the stunning landscapes of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale (22 miles) are also within easy reach, and its well-placed for a day trip over the Lakes if you want to explore there too.

The property is set on the edge of a very pretty village. There's a great dining pub just a short walk away and if you're a bit of a foodie there are several more excellent dining pubs in the area as well as a deli, tea room and farm shop. It's also the perfect location if you enjoy walking: there are lots of beautiful walks from the doorstep and in fact, it's well known as a great starting point for walking - seasoned walkers come from miles around to set off from the village.

This stunning Yorkshire Cottage is just 4 miles away from Richmond, a historic market town with much to offer the discerning holidaymaker. Explore the cobbled market square or head up towards Richmond Castle for a slice of Yorkshire history. Just a short drive through Richmond takes you into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales proper. Head up towards Reeth and on towards Hawes in Wensleydale for a true taste of this magnificent countryside.

North of the cottage is the charming town of Barnard Castle (12 miles). Recently listed as one of the top 10 places to live in the UK, it's a pretty little place with a host of shops, cafes and pubs to explore. The excellent Bowes Museum is here and is well worth a visit. And as the name would suggest there's a historic castle to explore too.

Further south, you'll find the pretty market town of Northallerton (20 miles) where handsome Georgian houses line the long main street. The wonderful Betty's Tearooms is here as is a fantastic local deli, Lewis & Cooper's Food Emporium and of course the quintessentially Yorkshire department store of Barkers.

To take in the North York Moors head further south still and brave it up Sutton Bank, the view from the top said by some to be the finest in all of England. The gorgeous market town of Helmsley makes for the perfect pit-stop. If you feel like a spot of pampering, there's also a fantastic spa just a few miles down the road.

The cottage was cold, no microwave availableWhen showering water went everywhere, overall not a cottage experience at all we left one night early

Response from Gorgeous Cottages:

Hi Sharon,Thank you for your review, we do appreciate all feedback so that we can maintain our high standards. The bathroom should be fine if the shower head is facing down, then the water should remain in the showering area. The cottage is usually very warm as it has underfloor heating which is left on all the time. The owner is going to check this out to make sure everything is working as it should be. The owner is also planning to purchase a microwave. Yorkshire has so much to offer, we do hope that you will visit again soon. Take care, Maureen.
