This superb stone cottage, which was a cow shed in its former life, is an ideal getaway for families looking to experience country life deep in the heart of Wensleydale. Set on the edge of a hamlet called Healey with extensive gardens, you'll see that you are surrounded by countryside at this property, yet still within easy driving distance of bustling towns. The nearest town of Masham (3 miles) boasts Georgian buildings around a cobbled square, site of the famous Sheep Fair in September. Take a tour around the well-known Black Sheep and Theakston's breweries. Attractive nearby towns include Leyburn, Middleham, Pateley Bridge, Richmond and Ripon.

Step through the sliding glass doors into the spacious new living room with views of Colsterdale and the extensive gardens. A door leads into the bright kitchen with exposed beams an separate dining area. Down a few steps you will find double and twin bedrooms separated by a bathroom with a shower over bath and WC. A third en-suite zip and link double bedroom is located off the new living room.

At the front of the property, there is a fully enclosed courtyard which is loved by dogs and perfect for enjoying an al fresco drink in the evenings or sizzling up a BBQ. Venture through the gate to the wonderful extensive gardens, where there is a mill pond and a delightful lawn area for you to enjoy a picnic. Say hello to the ducks and chickens that are wandering around on-site and take the children to play on the swings or in the football goal that are all freely available for you to use.

  • 3 bedrooms – 2 doubles and 1 twin

The property is set on the edge of a sleepy and very pretty little hamlet in deepest Wensleydale. There are some lovely walks right from the door, and the next village along boasts a great foodie pub. Heading west will take you over the high ground of Nidderdale and down into Pateley Bridge, a very popular and bustling market town. A few miles in the opposite direction takes you further up into Wensleydale with the wonderful Jervaulx Abbey and Brymor ice cream parlour.

The nearest town is Masham (2 miles), a gorgeous and thriving market town where handsome old Georgian buildings politely gather around a cobbled square. Every year there is a famous sheep fair held in the square. There are lots of delights to discover in the town including an excellent fine dining restaurant, a host of lovely cafes, a top-notch wine shop and several very good butchers. And if you enjoy a tipple or two, it's also home to the world-famous Black Sheep & Theakstons Breweries too. You can visit both, sample their wares in their own pubs and take some home for later too!

The property is also just a short drive to Middleham (10 miles), one of Yorkshire's loveliest villages. Famous for its castle (once home to Richard III) it's also home to several racehorse trainers; you will see and hear the horses being led through the village up to the gallops every day. And to top it off there is a lovely collection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops.

Or how about a morning visiting the charming market town of Leyburn (12 miles). Leyburn is an archetypal slice of Dales market town life. You'll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square, which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain. The nearby historic town of Richmond (20 miles) is similar in many ways and has a lovely setting along the River Swale.

There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range. Aysgarth Falls (20 miles), Bolton Castle (18 miles) and the gorgeous villages of West Burton (25 miles) and Askrigg (25 miles) are relatively near, so there’s lots of choice for things to do if you want to get out and about. If walking is your thing, the Yorkshire Dales are something of a walker's paradise. And there are plenty of options for cycling too in this Tour De France country.
