Plant lovers should relish the opportunity to visit RHS Harlow Carr (7 miles), a beautiful 58-acre garden with a lake, tearoom and a whole host of gardens from alpines to exotics. Enjoy an interesting walk at Brimham Rocks (9 miles) to see the unique formations or head along the River Nidd to Mother Shipton’s Cave (11 miles) which is an engaging experience for families; a stay in the Yorkshire Dales National Park offers a whole host of outdoor days out.

The grand Victorian spa town of Harrogate (8 miles) is regularly listed as the best place to live in the UK. The truly gorgeous Yorkshire town combines traditional elegance with contemporary style effortlessly. And the Duchy suburb is well known as being one of the most desirable postcodes in town.

Best known for its antiques and fine art, Harrogate has antique dealers and galleries around every corner, particularly around the Montpellier Quarter. If buying old paintings and furniture isn't your bag, there are a host of other reasons to part with your cash in Harrogate. High fashion outlets nestle alongside lavish interior boutiques, punctuated with enough fine restaurants and cafes to keep you fuelled for weeks.

A visit to Bettys Tea Rooms is a must and, if you have time, we highly recommend a session at the famous Turkish Baths. Rejuvenate spirit and soul after a day on the town. If you're travelling with children, Harrogate is famous for its outdoor space with lots of parkland and greenery everywhere. The RHS gardens at Harlow Carr are also a fantastic option for families.

Harrogate is also very close to the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors so it makes the perfect base from which to explore the glorious Yorkshire landscape and its many stunning natural sights. The breathtaking Nidderdale is 10 miles north-west, and you will be driving through some of the most dramatic Dales scenery. We highly recommend a day trip to gorgeous Ilkley (11 miles) combined with a visit to Bolton Abbey, 13 miles away.

York is within easy reach (32 miles) and a day trip to this beautiful mediaeval city is well worth it.
