Whether you want to explore on foot or by bike, there are routes and trails for everyone, whatever your ability. You could stroll or cycle around the local reservoirs of Swinsty and Fewston, or venture further afield to the Yorkshire Dales National Park, which is packed with yet more natural wonders, attractive towns and intriguing historical sites for you to discover. The area also boasts a wealth of flora and fauna, so be sure to pack your spotters’ guides, binoculars and camera.

This attractive stone cottage is nestled amongst the fields of the owners’ farm, ensuring your stay is a peaceful one with panoramic views of the rolling green hills from many of the rooms. 10 miles away is the grand Victorian spa town of Harrogate, which is regularly listed as the best place to live in the UK. The truly gorgeous Yorkshire town combines traditional elegance with contemporary style effortlessly. And the Duchy suburb is well known as being one of the most desirable postcodes in town

Best known for its antiques and fine art, Harrogate has antique dealers and galleries around every corner, particularly around the Montpellier Quarter. If buying old paintings and furniture isn't your bag there are a host of other reasons to part with your cash in Harrogate. High fashion outlets nestle alongside lavish interior boutiques, punctuated with enough fine restaurants and cafes to keep you fuelled for weeks.

A visit to Betty's Tearooms is a must and if you have time, we highly recommend a session at the famous Turkish Baths. Rejuvenate spirit and soul after a day on the town. If you're travelling with children, Harrogate is famous for its outdoor space with lots of parkland and greenery everywhere. The RHS Gardens at Harlow Carr are also a fantastic option for families.

Harrogate is also very close to the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors so makes the perfect base from which to explore the glorious Yorkshire landscape and its many stunning natural sights. We highly recommend a day trip to gorgeous Ilkley (10.5 miles) combined with a visit to Bolton Abbey, 14 miles away.

Time a visit with the Great Yorkshire Show – it is a massive platform for farmers and local craft-makers to showcase their way of life and their produce on a grand-scale. Harrogate is best known for its convention centres and it’s an events hub too, so it’s worth seeing what is on their programme.

Also, worth a visit is Pateley Bridge, which sits at the heart of the breathtaking Nidderdale landscape (12.5 miles). It’s a charming little market town very typical of this area of Yorkshire. The main street is peppered with cafes, restaurants, local stores, quality butchers and a wine shop, everything you need to stock up for your stay. You'll also find the self-proclaimed 'Oldest Sweet Shop in England' here dating back to the early 1800s.

There are plenty of local attractions and stunning natural sights within easy driving distance of the property, including the fabulous and unique Brimham Rocks (10 miles) and the famous Three Peaks. Or check out the cathedral town of Ripon which is also well worth a visit and is 19 miles away, with its regal castle overlooking the town below. The RHS garden at Harlow Carr (7.5 miles) is a great place to visit for those that love flowers, plants and beautiful surroundings.

York is a little further away at 31 miles but would make for a great daytrip as this beautiful medieval city has a lot to offer.
