  • The perfect retreat for families and couples to get together and celebrate a special occasion
Property code: 83318

Enjoying a rural location surrounded by picturesque farmland, this beautiful barn conversation provides the perfect getaway for families and couples to relax in style an explore this magnificent area.

Head to this holiday home on the fringes of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and discover the beauty of North Yorkshire for yourselves. Sleeping seven guests, and also welcoming up to three of their canine companions, this former barn enjoys sweeping vistas out across its scenic surroundings. Located near Kettlesing Bottom, some 6 miles from Harrogate, the appealing, stone property has four bedrooms and benefits from an attractive, lawned garden.

Find a whole host of magnificent beauty spots and historical sites of interest to visit in the area. Head out on foot to Fewston Reservoir, 3 miles away, for example. Set in the Washburn Valley, this natural reservoir has a number of footpaths and beautiful bluebell woods you can explore. Also venture out to the National Trust’s Brimham Rocks, 7 miles by car or less than 5 miles on foot. These dramatic rock formations and their surrounding heather moorlands are Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

Make your way into the barn and find yourselves in an airy, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with two sets of glass doors onto the outside space. Spread out in here to cook, relax and play holiday games together. Take turns preparing delicious meals with the tasty, local Yorkshire produce you have bought on your trips out. Serve up at the colourful table to enjoy your food together. Find a film to watch on the Smart TV then unwind on the sofas at the end of each fun-filled day.

On through the hall is a handy utility room, where you can leave your outdoor clothing and whiz damp and muddy clothes through the machines; you’ll find a WC here too. A king-size bedroom, with an en-suite shower room and electric bed, is also at this level. Climb the stairs to discover another king-size bedroom, plus a super-king-size and a single, and the family bathroom, with free-standing bath and shower. Wake up in the morning to take in the glorious Nidderdale scenery and perhaps even go for a stroll before breakfast.

Make the most of the good-sized garden, which is enclosed, on warm days. Watch the pups and children chase about on the lawn and fire up the BBQ on pleasant evenings to cook dinner in the fresh air. Pour yourself a gin and tonic and simply gaze out at the views while you are waiting for your supper. You can store your bikes safely at the house and there is off-road parking for four cars.

  • 4 bedrooms – 1 super-king-size, 2 king-size (1 with electric bed) and 1 single
  • 2 bathrooms – 1 bathroom with free-standing bath, separate shower and WC, 1 en-suite wet room with shower and WC, and 1 separate WC
  • The ground floor has been purposely made for wheelchair and disabled people, complete with wet room, heightened toilet, and wash basin for wheel chair access

Worth visiting during your stay is Coldstones Cut, 10.5 miles away. This features a great sculpture that captures views out over the working Coldstones Quarry and parts of Nidderdale. Stump Cross Caverns, an ancient natural cave formation deep beneath the Dales, is approximately 12 miles from the barn and also an intriguing place to spend time. Plan day trips to Ripley Castle, 6 miles away, where you can see the exquisite, walled garden, as well as the lake and waterfall, and you can stroll through the deer park.

Or, head off to the grand Victorian spa town of Harrogate, which is regularly listed as the best place to live in the UK, for days out. The truly gorgeous Yorkshire town combines traditional elegance with contemporary style effortlessly.

Best known for its antiques and fine art, Harrogate has antique dealers and galleries around every corner, particularly around the Montpellier Quarter. If buying old paintings and furniture isn’t your favourite pastime, then there are a host of other reasons to shop in Harrogate. High fashion outlets nestle alongside lavish interior boutiques, punctuated with enough fine restaurants and cafes to keep you fuelled for weeks.

A visit to Bettys Tearooms is a must and, if you have time, we highly recommend a session at the famous Turkish Baths. Rejuvenate spirit and soul after a day on the town. Harrogate is also famous for its outdoor space and abundance of parkland and greenery. The RHS gardens at Harlow Carr are a fantastic option for families.

Other places well worth visiting in the area include gorgeous Ilkley, which is 12.5 miles away, combined with a visit to Bolton Abbey, 12 miles away. York is also a great place for a day trip for anyone happy to drive 27 miles to the medieval city. The jewel in North Yorkshire’s crown, this ancient walled city has been the north's spiritual capital for 2,000 years. Its affluent population and its influx of tourist pounds have also helped to create a cultural and commercial oasis. History seeps out of every cobbled street, but the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

The kitchen and bathrooms were done to a high spec. Just about all kitchen needs were catered for eg food bags, foil, clingfilm etc.. only thing that might be good would be a slow cooker. The downstairs is indeed wheelchair friendly however, the ground leading to the bi fold doors has gravel on it and that was difficult to maneuver the wheelchair aRead morecross. Apart from that, no problems at all and the washing machine and tumble dryer came in so useful. Hide

We had a super holiday here. A great location with lovely open views all around ( the downside it can get quite windy!). Lovely, well-maintained property in superb location. Lots to do within short drives. Very comfortable beds and lounge. We really enjoyed the noisy cows in the next field, the bat aerial shows at night and the swift performances during the day. Definitely our favourite holiday cottage so far!
