This stylish, cosy cottage on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales makes an ideal retreat for families or friends looking to immerse themselves in the tranquillity and splendour of the area.

This stunning two-bedroom luxury holiday cottage looks directly out onto historic Middleham Castle. With its pretty village location, elegant interiors and handsome sheltered garden, we think you might just fall in love with this gorgeous period property.

Character, elegance and charm, this cottage has all three in abundance. The subject of a recent refurbishment, this beautiful old building has been completely transformed into a stylish and comfortable holiday home.

Let's start in the spacious sitting room with its peaceful tones and classic furnishings. You'll love the heated flagstone flooring underfoot and the wonderful stone fireplace complete with a wood burner for those cosy evenings in. Sink into the comfortable sofa while you choose a movie from the selection on Netflix. Or perhaps dive into one of the coffee table books while you put your feet up with a nice cup of tea. There's also a lovely dining table here by the window; watch the stable boys walking the racehorses up through the village to the gallops over lunch. Wi-Fi is provided as is all the wood for the wood burner.

Step through to the adorable bespoke kitchen with its powder blue units, marble worktop, Belfast sink and breakfast bar. There are plenty of contemporary comforts too including a dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave. Set looking out towards the garden and the castle beyond, it's a great backdrop to breakfast or that pre-dinner glass of bubbly.

Working your way upstairs you'll discover a roomy mezzanine-style landing which offers a quiet space to work or read. Just off here the fabulous master bedroom; this graceful and stylish room looks out to the front of the cottage and over the village. Soft greys, whites and lime-washed stripped floorboards combine to create a calm and relaxed ambience. The super king-size bed is dressed in the finest bed linen and features a top of the range HYPNOS mattress. The en-suite is open plan and sits up a step from the main bedroom. In here you'll find an impressive walk-in shower and WC. Complimentary toiletries and super-soft fluffy bathrobes are provided too.

The second bedroom is on the second floor in the eaves. Another very generous room with a super king-size bed which can also be set up as two singles if preferred. This room is en-suite and features a beautiful roll-top bath just perfect for those indulgent evening soaks. The view from up here is superb, you can see right across the village to the castle and the wonderful Wensleydale countryside beyond.

Step out from the elegant interior into the garden, an immaculate sheltered space with a fantastic view of the castle. Something of a suntrap, there is a pretty patio area complete with a BBQ, chimenea and small lawned garden scented with a lavender border. What better place to enjoy a lazy lunch alfresco in the warmer months.

Please note there is a refundable £150 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

  • 2 bedrooms – 2 super-king, but 1 can be made up as 2 singles if required

The cottage is set in the heart of Middleham village in Wensleydale, one of Yorkshire's loveliest villages. Famous for its castle (once home to Richard III) it's also home to several racehorse trainers; you will see and hear the horses being led through the village up to the gallops every day. To top it off, there is a lovely collection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops.

Opposite the cottage is a charming tea room if you fancy a treat, and for dinner you can opt for a pub meal or Italian. There's also a village store and a couple of bric-a-brac shops to mooch around. Just a few miles out of the village is the fantastic attraction The Forbidden Corner (3 miles). Regularly voted the best family attraction in Yorkshire, it's also well worth a look even if there are no children in your party.

In the opposite direction you'll find the charming market town of Leyburn (2 miles). Leyburn is an archetypical slice of Dales market town life. You'll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square, which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain. The nearby historic town of Richmond (13 miles) is similar in many ways and has a lovely setting along the River Swale.

There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range of the cottage. Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are within 10 miles and the gorgeous villages of West Burton (10 miles) and Askrigg (14 miles) are within easy driving distance, so there’s lots of choice for things to do if you want to get out and about. If walking is your thing, the Yorkshire Dales are something of a walker's paradise. And there are plenty of options for cycling too in this Tour De France country.

Lovely cottage in centre of the village. Friendly church. Ideally placed for visiting local attractions. We particularly enjoyed visits to Wensleydale Creamery, Black Sheep Brewery, nearby castles and the Bowes Museum. Great to watch the racehorses going to and from the gallops.

We would recommend this cosy, well appointed and well located cottage. We had a lovely time in Warwick cottage. It was warm during a cold week in February, serving as a great base for our walks in the Dales. The lounge and beds were very comfortable and the log burner was very effective. A lovely comfortable and well presented cottage with easy access and parking. Grocery store and three pubs just a short walk. The racing stables tour was very informative and a great way to spend a morning. We enjoyed waking up in the morning to the sound off the horses passing by on their way to train on the gallops.

Response from Gorgeous Cottages:

Hi Hilary, I am pleased that you had a lovely time. New Jamie Oliver glasses and dressing gowns had been ordered prior to your stay and were delivered to you as soon as they arrived, apologies that they were not there for your arrival. Pillows are a personal preference and havent been mentioned before. The bath does have some marks which may have looked like hairs. All of your comments have been passed on to the owner and housekeeper for their attention. We do hope that you will visit again for another stay in Yorkshire. Take care, Maureen. Hide
