  • Plenty of nearby exploring to do if you can drag yourself away from this tranquil position
Property code: 90403

Pamper yourselves at this stunning single-storey lodge with a sauna and a heated indoor swimming pool for your private use – it’s perfect for a luxurious romantic break. The lodge is next to the owner’s property and sits on the edge of the pretty village of Bubwith just 13 miles from the wonderful city of York. Head into the city to discover its labyrinthine quaint streets, the iconic Minster, and just as iconic Betty’s tearoom, as well as the fantastic shops, eateries, and attractions, including The Shambles and York Racecourse.

Bubwith is home to a restaurant and takeaway, and a welcoming pub (less than 1 mile away) that does great home-cooked food, local beers, and real ales so you don’t have to go far for a drink and meal out. You’ll also find a convenience store, a butcher, a deli, and a wine shop in the village so you can stock up on ingredients and stay in and cook delicious meals in the well-appointed kitchen.

Enjoy dining together at the dining table in the lovely light and spacious garden room, which has large patio doors to the decking area so you can bring the outside in on warm days. There’s also a door from the garden room to the indoor pool and sauna, a bit like having your own private spa!

Grab your towelling robes and slippers and head to the pool and sauna. When you’re feeling totally relaxed and refreshed, kick back on the comfortable corner sofa in the lounge, with space to curl up and catch-up on your favourite show on the Smart TV or spread out and have a nap. After a chilled evening, head to bed in the double bedroom for a great night’s sleep. There’s also a shower room and a camp bed if you have a young child.

Take a cool drink and a good book outside to the relaxing seats on the decking. Feel free to enjoy the lawn, and explore the pretty Japanese gardens, or simply sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. The large garden (over an acre) is shared with the owner and your privacy is assured. If you fancy dining alfresco, there’s a dining table and chairs for four on the decking.

  • 1 double bedroom
  • 1 shower room with WC
  • Electric oven and hob, microwave, coffee machine, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer

The jewel in North Yorkshire's crown, we think York is one of the best short break destinations in England and is a favourite amongst even the most seasoned of travellers. This ancient walled city has been the north's spiritual capital for 2,000 years, but that's not to say it is stuck in the past; York's affluent population and its influx of tourist pounds have helped to create a cultural and commercial oasis. History seeps out of every cobbled street, but the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Everywhere in York is easily reachable by foot as this small but perfectly formed city houses most of its main attractions within the city walls. Middle Ages' town planning means it can take quite some time to get your bearings, but finding your way around the labyrinth of warped streets is part of the fun. Make sure you take in York Minster, The Shambles, the Railway Museum and Betty's tearoom whilst you're there.

If you are looking for outside space in which to relax, you have the choice of a number of parks and gardens, including Dean's Park next to the Minster, the Yorkshire Museum Gardens next to the River Ouse and, slightly further afield, Rowntree Park with its children's playground, tennis courts and bowling green. And, what's more, it really is a year-round location. Summer days can be spent lounging in one of the gorgeous parks, and in the autumn, York comes alive with shop windows sparkling in the dusky light. Its central location also makes a great base from which to explore the rest of glorious Yorkshire, with the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Yorkshire coastline all within easy reach for beautiful walks and adventurous days out.

If walking or cycling is your thing, there are lots of beautiful paths and routes in the area. If you fancy serious hiking, the North York Moors landscape offers some of the best trails in the country. Take a trip up to the top of the high moorlands around Blakey Ridge (35 miles) and breathe in that clear Yorkshire air.

The beautiful market town of Helmsley (24.5 miles) is within easy driving distance and is well worth a visit. Head 18 miles east to find Malton, another gorgeous market town offering lots of lovely independent shops and cafes to indulge in, or the charming market town of Easingwold is a great option 13 miles from the city.

We have no negative comments about this property. The comfort of the bed and the cleanliness of the property was great. It was like home from home. We didn't take advantage of using the pool although we had plenty of opportunities to do so,this didn't affect the enjoyment of our holiday as it was our choice to do what we wanted each day. Penny and KRead moreeith were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us if we needed anything. We went out in the car regularly , and walked to the local pub and shops. Hide

We have used Holiday Cottages a number of times to find pleasant get aways. We have never been disappointed. However Willow Lodge was in a different class. Private swimming pool and sauna accessed from a lovely garden room. More luxury spa get away than simply a cottage :)

This is a lovely, clean and comfortable lodge, attached to the owners house. It has direct access to the pool which guests have private use of, outside the daily swimming lessons. The japanese gardens are lovely to wander through, with peaceful seating areas. The location is perfect, set in a small village with an excellent pub, Indian restaurant/tRead moreakeaway and deli. The butchers is also fab (we stocked up before leaving!). York is 20 mins and lots of other places are easy to reach. Hide
