79522 Vale Cottage At Wellspring Farm

Scarborough

Nestled in a peaceful corner of the North York Moors National Park, this spectacular property is the perfect rural hideaway for families or groups of friends. Enveloped by miles of breathtaking natural beauty and with the rugged, Yorkshire coastline within 12 miles, this property really does offer guests the very best of coast and country. Lovers of the great outdoors will be spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting a walking or cycling route, as there are a wealth of walks from your doorstep and the Moor-to-Sea cycle network passes close by. Also nearby is the Woodland Trust’s Wykeham Forest, which is a well-known breeding ground for Honey Buzzards and Goshawks, so venturing up to nearby Raptor’s Viewpoint will afford glimpses of these majestic birds. Another lovely location for walking is Wykeham Lakes and it also offers a range of water-based activities for the adrenaline junkies amongst you. If you have children with you, there are a host of attractions in the area, which those both young and old will love. Alternatively, you could enjoy a leisurely wander around the independent shops and eateries of local towns such as Pickering, Scarborough or Filey.

This property has been beautifully decorated with keen attention to detail. Neutral tones and timeless décor add a sense of style and class throughout, whilst large windows add a sense of light and space. In keeping with its heritage, natural materials, such as stone, brick and wood are the stars of the show. There are beautiful views of the stunning gardens from all the rooms, making it a relaxing place to stay.

On entering the property, discard your coats and shoes in the hallway before heading into the large open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, where the exposed oak beams add charm and character. You and your guests will enjoy socialising together here and making the most of your time together. The well-equipped, stylish kitchen has everything you’ll need to rustle up some treats for everyone, and the breakfast bar makes it possible for everyone to get involved. Once you’ve dined at the table and planned the next day’s adventure, head into the comfortable lounge area and snuggle up for an evening of TV in front of the log burner. Completing the ground floor are two beautiful bedrooms (both super-kingzip-and-link). One has an en-suite wet room whilst the other has an en-suite shower room. The two further bedrooms are upstairs on the first floor. The king-size room has an en-suite shower room, whilst the twin room has use of the family bathroom with a shower over the bath.

Outside, there is a large garden and patio area, which is the ideal spot for al fresco eating and evening drinks against a backdrop of lush green countryside. For even more impressive views, head up to the unique star-gazing pod with its cosy seating and 360 degree views. Enjoy a morning coffee up here or a hot chocolate whilst watching the night sky. There are two other properties at this location, and all guests are welcome to wander around the enclosed orchard and explore the mature, well-kept gardens. There is off-road parking for four cars.

Additional notes: description is limited due to limited pictures on HC website. I have based the highlighted paragraph on the décor of the two other properties at the location – assuming this one is a similar style. Please amend as necessary.

Location

The property has a fabulous location close to the Yorkshire coast, with all of the delights of Scarborough only 12.5 miles away, including its gorgeous sandy beaches, cafes and restaurants.

Make your way through the historic streets to explore Scarborough Castle or pop into St Mary's churchyard to visit Anne Bronte's grave. Enjoy a stroll around the South Cliff area taking in the famous spa and Italian Gardens. Catch the cliff lift down to the beach and walk around to the peaceful North Bay, visit the renowned Sea Life Centre or explore the beautiful Peasholm Park with its boating lake, woodland walks and oriental influences.

The old railway line which ran from Scarborough to Whitby is now a stunning cycle and walking route and is the perfect choice if you feel like a coastal walk taking in some spectacular scenery. You are also perfectly placed to take in the best of the North York Moors, Yorkshire coast and York.

Sitting at the eastern foot of the North York Moors, the region's dramatic landscape of heather and open moorland is just a short drive away. Somewhat smaller than the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors still cover an area of almost 600 square miles and like the dales you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the moors. In place of harsh limestone and dramatic peaks, you'll find gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but it is cast in comforting soft focus.

The rest of the Yorkshire coast is also close by. Much like its Cornish counterpart, the North Yorkshire coastline is a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is proper bucket and spade territory. That's not to say it's stuck in the past, in fact, the coast's villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars.

This region is best known for the gorgeously gothic town of Whitby (22.5 miles). Playing host at one time to Romans, Saxons, Celts and Danes amongst others, the town's rich heritage is immediately obvious. Straddling the river Esk and dominated by the 13th-century ruins of St Hilda's Abbey on the East Cliff, Whitby's crooked cobbled streets and picturesque harbour have been a magnet for artists and tourists alike for centuries. Robin Hood's Bay (20 miles) and Sandsend (33 miles) are also worth a visit, each with their own unique charm.

We had a great stay at Wold Cottage. Its in a lovely little village and in the countryside on the edge of the forest yet fairly close to some of North Yorkshires towns and cities. The cottage has everything you need and it decorated really nicely. Our dog loved the orchard and rose gardens. We found it a great base to visit Whitby, Saltburn, SandseRead morend and York, which are all less than an hours drive. The cottage is great value for money and nice and peaceful to relax at. Hide
