All of the accommodation is on ground level. Stepping into a central hall, you'll discover a large open-plan living area off to your right. Housing the kitchen, dining area and lounge this is a peaceful and pleasant area to relax in at any time of day. The lounge is dominated by an impressive hearth, home to a cosy wood burner and just the spot for curling up in front of a movie, glass of wine in hand. An LCD internet TV and a DVD player are provided, as well as Wi-Fi should you need to check up online.

The sleek contemporary kitchen is very well equipped with everything you could need, a real home from home with Jamie Oliver cutlery, Nespresso coffee machine, Denby crockery and even French steak knives in the drawers. There's also a dishwasher and washer/dryer should you need it.

There are two bedrooms, both of which boast super king-size beds (one of which can be set up as two singles if required) and stunning en-suites with huge walk-in showers. The first is to the rear of the cottage, a generous room with a lovely aspect looking out towards the woods. There is a striking feature headboard, subtle mood lighting and soft accents of wood and light blues to create a feeling of total peace and tranquillity. French doors lead out to the decked garden and hot tub. The second bedroom is just off the main hallway, another large room with French doors out to the front of the cottage. The calming ambience is continued here with a neutral backdrop. All are simply heavenly rooms that you'll find hard to leave!

The interiors are just one part of what makes this property such a wonderful holiday home. The gardens are just fabulous too, with landscaped wooden decks, beautiful outdoor furniture and of course that spectacular wood-fired hot tub. Set within a Balinese-style pagoda, you can treat yourself to a soak under the stars every evening, with the sound of the brook babbling away beside you. This property has a truly idyllic location. Within a mile’s walk from the sea yet hidden away from the world, you will have a real sense of escape. The wildlife is incredible with owls, badgers and even wild deer spotted from the comfort of your patio. The old railway line which ran from Scarborough to Whitby is now a stunning cycle and walking route and passes near the cottage. It's the perfect choice if you feel like a coastal walk taking in some spectacular scenery and it’s just one of many beautiful walks from your doorstep.

There's a cosy 18th-century inn on the way down to the sea, a nice option for lunch and a glass of wine or two in the evenings. The excellent Ravenscar Hotel is also within walking distance of the property. A little further on, you’ll come to the coast where you will find empty rocky beaches and hidden waterfalls.

Positioned just 8 miles outside Scarborough, its position means you are perfectly placed to take in the best of the North York Moors, Yorkshire Coast and York.

Sitting at the eastern foot of the North York Moors, the region's dramatic landscape of heather and open moorland is just a short drive away. Somewhat smaller than the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors still cover an area of almost 600 square miles and like the dales you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the moors. In place of harsh limestone and dramatic peaks, you'll find gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but it’s cast in comforting soft focus.

We recommend taking the road from Thornton-Le-Dale or Pickering (both 25 miles) north towards Whitby (15 miles) to experience it in all its grandeur. There are countless pretty villages and towns to explore in the area.

The property is also very close to the coast. Much like its Cornish counterpart, the North Yorkshire coastline is a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is proper bucket and spade territory. That's not to say it's stuck in the past; in fact, the coast's villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars.

This region is best known for the gorgeously gothic town of Whitby (15 miles). Playing host at one time to Romans, Saxons, Celts and Danes amongst others, the town's rich heritage is immediately obvious. Straddling the river Esk and dominated by the 13th-century ruins of St Hilda's Abbey on the East Cliff, Whitby's crooked cobbled streets and picturesque harbour have been a magnet for artists and tourists alike for centuries.

Although you could happily spend the weekend mooching about the independent shops, bars and cafes along Whitby's bustling medieval streets, it's well worth striking out to sample some of the other less known coastal villages nearby. Robin Hood's Bay and Sandsend can be reached within 15 miles and Staithes and Runswick Bay are slightly further at 25 miles.

The cottage had everything needed for a perfect stay. It was very modern, every little detail was thought of, whether it was the welcome hamper or even down to the little toiletries in the bathrooms. This cottage exceeded all expectations (and they were fairly high to start with). The only thing missing was a bean to cup coffee machine and we took our own!!! The break was perfect. The cottage is really tucked away so very peaceful. Close to the cinder track so lots of available walks. We cant wait to go again.

This is a beautiful cottage in a great location. Lots to explore in surrounding area and a truly perfect place to return to on an evening. The hot tub is amazing- surrounded by woodland and with the sound of a brook to add to the experience. Just perfect. We came with our two children (aged 3 and 6) and they loved it. Would also suit two couples.
