Sleeping four guests and also happy to accommodate a duo of dogs, this comfortable, single-storey property, which has stunning coastal views, could be perfect for a small family or two couples together.

The pretty village of Flamborough occupies a superb setting, perched on a picturesque peninsula on the east coast of Yorkshire, 4 miles from Bridlington. Offering visitors a small selection of welcoming pubs and restaurants, Flamborough also has much to offer the rambler, historian and birdwatcher. There are dramatic cliffs, which form an 8-mile stretch of heritage coastline, and at Flamborough Head, two historic lighthouses.

To the north of the village, the magnificent 400ft cliffs are home to one of the largest colonies of nesting sea birds in England. Discover the puffins at Bempton, 3 miles away, follow the fascinating natural trails at South Landing, 1 mile from the house, or the wooded ravine at Danes Dyke, 1.5 miles away. Alternatively, explore the smugglers’ caves at North Landing, a 1.5-mile walk. Flamborough Head Golf Club is opposite the property.

Open the door to your coastal retreat and find yourselves in the hall. From here, head through the dining room where you can admire the magnificent views of the lighthouse. This will provide a magnificent backdrop to your holiday meals.

The adjoining kitchen has everything you need to help you prepare tasty treats, from summer picnics to breakfast, lunch and dinner with your own ingredients. Find you have an electric hob/oven, fridge/freezer and microwave, as well as a washing machine for rinsing through your beach towels and swimming costumes.

Spend your evenings in the spacious lounge, where you can recline after your exhilarating excursions, reading your book for a while or watching a film on the TV with Freeview. Alternatively, head into the sunroom to gaze out over the garden. When you are ready to lay your head on your pillow for the night, wander off to one of the double bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom and the other with an en-suite shower room.

Step out into the Yorkshire sunshine to relax out in the garden on warm days. Dine out on the terrace and enjoy a cocktail as the sun goes down. Find you have off-road parking for two cars and space in the garage to store bikes.

Plan a day trip to Scarborough, 18 miles away, with its gorgeous sandy beaches, cafes and restaurants. Make your way through the historic streets to explore Scarborough Castle or pop into St Mary’s churchyard to visit Anne Bronte’s grave. Enjoy a stroll around the South Cliff area, taking in the famous spa and Italian Gardens. Catch the cliff lift down to the beach and walk around to the peaceful North Bay, visit the renowned Sea Life Centre or explore the beautiful Peasholm Park with its boating lake, woodland walks and oriental influences.

The old railway line which ran from Scarborough to Whitby is now a stunning cycle and walking route and is the perfect choice if you feel like a coastal walk taking in some spectacular scenery. From here, also head into the gorgeous North York Moors.

Somewhat smaller than the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors still cover an area of almost 600 square miles and, as in the Dales, you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the moors. In place of harsh limestone and dramatic peaks, you’ll find gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but it’s cast in comforting soft focus.
