Not a lot of people know this, but Yorkshire has one of the largest concentrations of top restaurants and eateries in the country, with more Michelin-stars than anywhere outside of London. Impressive stuff isn’t it.
But it’s that not surprising given the abundance of top quality local produce, from the lambs of Nidderdale to the Pheasants of the North York Moors. And of course there’s the seafood. Blessed with a gloriously long coastline it’s inevitable that some of Yorkshire’s best restaurants can be found on the coast.
Take a look at Gorgeous Cottages guide to the best restaurants on the Yorkshire Coast…

The Endeavour – Staithes
Tucked away off the beaten track in the picturesque fishing village of Staithes, this curious but wonderful seafood restaurant is a real find. The White Horse & Griffin – Whitby
Although this excellent restaurant is in the perfect location in the centre of town, it’s easy to saunter past it. Found on Church Street on the east side of Whitby towards the Abbey Steps, the candle-lit traditional interior and well stocked oyster menu make it the perfect venue for a romantic tryst. As well a fantastic ‘Power Breakfast’ option with optional Bucks Fizz and Bloody Mary to soothe any morning after affects, the main menu has a great selection of seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes. Estbek House – Sandsend
Just a few miles north of Whitby in the stunning coastal village of Sandsend, Estbek House is an award winning restaurant set in a stylish Georgian building close to the seafront. Everything about this restaurant-with-rooms is done well: the charming bar to enjoy a glass of bubbles pre-dinner, the snug dining room upstairs, the comprehensive wine list and the attentive service throughout. To top it all, the food is rather fabulous too… Telephone: 01947 893424 Website: www.estbekhouse.co.uk
The Marine – Whitby
The brassiere style restaurant in this boutique hotel has an enviable location on Marine Parade overlooking the harbour. The innovative brunch menu has a mouth-watering array of gorgeous treats, like the Chorizo and Black Pudding or classic Eggs Benedict. Most afternoons you’ll find someone tinkering away on the house piano, providing the ideal soundtrack to a lazy, indulgent lunch. With an equally impressive drinks menu including some rather tasty cocktails it’s hard to drag yourself away. www.the-marine-hotel.co.uk
The Woodlands – Sandsend
Gorgeous little restaurant in the fishing village of Sandsend. We love the relaxed seaside vibe as well as the inventive and really very good menu. It’s run by husband and wife team Alex and Natasha Perkins, an enterprising and likable pair with a real sense of how to do things right. http://www.thewoodlands-sandsend.com/
Jeremy’s – Scarborough
Chef and proprietor Jeremy Hollingsworth brings some seriously good cooking credentials to the table having worked for the likes of Parco Pierre White and gained his very own Michelin star whilst head chef at Quo Vadis. Returning back to his home town of Scarborough to launch Jeremy’s, he’s succeeded in creating a top quality restaurant with a great location. http://www.jeremys.co/
