What’s on in Yorkshire for Easter 2017

Easter in Yorkshire

Easter falls late this year with Good Friday on the 14th April. Hopefully this will mean some lovely Spring weather to get out and about in the fresh air while the kids are off school. There are plenty of activities taking place in Yorkshire and we have compiled some of the best for you.

North York Moors National Park, Easter Egg Hunt – 14th April to 17th April.

North York Moors National Centre

Hunt out the eggs in the grounds of the National Park Centre at Danby. You’ll need to crack the code but it sounds like an egg-cellent adventure to me!

Scarborough Castle, Easter Adventure Quest – 14th to 17th April.

Scarborough Castle is the only spot in Scarborough with views of the North and South Bay and it is heading back to the past this Easter. Kids can join this quest back in time, meet a range of historic characters and be rewarded for their efforts with some chocolate.

Mother Shipton’s Cave, Wizard of Oz Easter Adventure – 8th to 23rd April

Kids can head to Oz by meeting Dorothy, the lion, the scarecrow and the tin man and completing a free adventure sheet to help them all reach the emerald city. You can also explore the famous petrifying wall at Mother Shipton’s Cave where everyday objects are slowly turned to stone!

Dales Countryside Museum. Egg-cellent Easter Trail, 8th to 28th April

Hunt out the clues within this Hawes museum and find out all about the birds of the Yorkshire Dales. Prizes are available for completion of the trail.

Kilnsey Park Estate, Easter in the Dales, 15th to 17th April

A range of activities are taking place at Kilnsey Park including lamb feeding, pony rides and face painting. There is also a Spring Trail with chocolate treats at the end.

York Chocolate Story, A Very Chocolate Easter, 8th to 24th April

York Easter Family Festival, 14th to 17th April

Parliament Street in York will be the hub of a range of Easter activities. Part of it will be transformed into a farm with tractor and miniature petting zoo while a Little Vikings Activity Tent will include face painting, crafts, storytelling and dancing.

Cadbury Easter Egg Hunts, Various dates

You’ll find Cadbury Easter Egg Hunts taking place at various National Trust sites including Nunnington Hall, Beningbrough Hall, Rievaulx Terrace, Fountains Abbey, The Old Coastguard Station at Robin Hoods Bay and Ravenscar Visitor’s Centre. Follow the trails and find the clues to be rewarded with a chocolate treat!

Hebden Bridge, Easter Monday Duck Race, 17th April

This one-day event at Hebden Bridge includes live music, charity stalls and family entertainment. The duck race itself starts at 3.15pm when 10,000 yellow ducks are launched into the river at St George’s Bridge and float towards the finish line at West End Bridge.

Scampston Walled Garden, Easter Market, 15th April

A craft and produce fair will take place in the conservatory at Scampston with a range of hand-made gifts to browse. The gardens themselves are open from the 14th April until 29th October on Tuesday to Sunday.

Burton Agnes Hall, Easter Egg Trail and Hunt

Explore the grounds surrounding Burton Agnes to find and solve clues. A craft tent includes activities such as colouring and a giant gold egg is located somewhere on the grounds.

Easter at RHS Harlow Carr, 1st – 23rd April

RHS Gardens Harlow Carr

Activities include a Lindt Gold Bunny Trail, craft workshops where kids can make a bunny head dress and Birds of Prey displays and flying shows. From Good Friday to Easter Sunday you can also meet some cute and cuddly baby lambs and goats.
