Luxury Cottages on the Yorkshire Coast
I know I’m a little guilty of raving about The Retreat in Sandsend, but it’s just such a find of a holiday cottage that one can’t help but wax lyrical about its many charms. Hidden away in the hills sweeping down to Sandsend Bay, The Retreat truly lives up to its name – it’s an idyllic coastal cottage for anyone looking to get away from it all for a while. And when you feel like connecting with the world again wander down into Sandsend for dinner or an afternoon at the fabulous local Spa.
Created by an owner with a flair for interior design and an eye for detail, we think Foxglove Cottage in Hutton Buscel is in the running to be the finest holiday cottage in England, not just on the Yorkshire Coast! This honey-coloured country cottage is set just a few miles inland from the increasingly cosmopolitan Scarborough, with Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby just a short drive away. The added advantage is that just a few miles West or North and you can be immersed in some of the finest scenery of the North York Moors. Designer interiors, a heavenly garden and a picture postcard location – can’t ask for much more than that…
Tucked away on Chapel Street in Robin Hood’s Bay, Wortley Cottage has again been the subject of an interior designers touch. White clap-board walls and bright blue accents throughout creates a sophisticated New England feel. Its cosy in the winter and fresh in the summer, with the café’s, shops and beach in Robin Hood’s Bay just a stone’s throw from the front door. There are 3 double bedrooms accommodating up to 6 adults easily – a great option for families looking to experience an upmarket seaside holiday.
The Piggery in Sleights is a chocolate box Yorkshire Coast holiday cottage which dates back to the early 19th Century. The quaint stone-built exterior houses a comforting cottage which is both traditional and contemporary in equal measure. There’s a warm open fire, a generous open-plan sitting room leading on to a large kitchen / dining room and a balcony looking out towards the Esk Valley. It’s one of the best views of any holiday cottage I’ve stayed in. Sipping my cup of Yorkshire Tea while the steam train of the North York Moors Railway trundled along to Whitby was a special moment!
And now something for the romantics out there. Designed for two, Cowslip Retreat on the Yorkshire Coast is a perfect holiday cottage for couples to escape to. The bedroom is set within a stylish open-plan area which also features a cottage style kitchen and cosy sitting area, complete with wood-burner. Take your loved one by the hand and lead them out onto the pretty terrace for a glass of champagne – gorgeous views and just the spot to fall in love!
