Stone Barns in Gunnerside – Swaledale

Stone Barns in Gunnerside - Yorkshire Dales

Stone Barns in Gunnerside - Yorkshire Dales

Two classic images of Swaledale’s trademark stone barns and stone-built walls.   This patchwork of stone and green grass is the very essence of the Northern Yorkshire Dales.  A permanent reminder of how man has worked to tame this wild and beautiful landscape.  Swaledale is a fantastic location for a Yorkshire Cycling Holiday and of course is on the 2014 Yorkshire Tour de France route.

Where to stay: Lovely Cottage, Kisdon View, Laykin Cottage, The Old School

The sun rising over Malham

The sun rising near Malham in the Yorkshire Dales

These breath-taking images capture the drama and beauty of a sunrise in the Yorkshire Dales.  Both images were taken near Malham, famous for its 250 foot Limestone Cliff face cut from the rock by an ancient waterfall long since gone.  It’s a steep climb up the man-made steps to the top but the fabulous view over the moorland and remarkable limestone pavements below is your reward.  The half-mile walk to the Cove is signposted from Malham village.

Where to stay: Sunnybeck Cottage, Bankwell Cottage, Eden

The lush green valleys of Littondale

Littondale in the Yorkshire Dales

Littondale in the Yorkshire Dales

More quintessential Yorkshire Dales images above, this time capturing the green and pleasant land of Littondale in the centre of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.  Like much of the Yorkshire Dales, Littondale is full of fascinating and historically significant sites, including the traces of circular dwellings where Celtic settlers lived many hundreds of years ago.  It is a particularly lush and verdant valley and you feel hidden away from the rest of the world here.  Wonderful location for a walking holiday to Yorkshire.

Where to stay: Burtersett Cottage, Waterside Cottage

Some amazing images of the Yorkshire Dales above; a truly unique and magical landscape.  If you would like to explore it yourself then choose one of our Luxury Yorkshire Dales Cottages as your base-camp.  Enjoy!
