Skipton Sheep

Skipton Sheep

A beautiful and atmospheric shot of the landscape around Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales.  Skipton is known as the ‘Gate-way to the Dales’ and sits at the South-western foot of the Dales National Park.  Within minutes of this historic market town you can be immersed in some of the most scenic countryside in Yorkshire.  It’s the perfect base for a walking or cycling holiday to Yorkshire.

Where to stay: Higher Scarcliffe

The Gate

The Gate - Oxenhope Yorkshire

A gorgeous image of the sun setting over Oxenhope in South Yorkshire.  This is the moody rolling landscape of Bronte country, with Haworth just a few miles away from here.  Fans of classic literature will of course know the Bronte sisters were responsible for the brooding novels ‘Wuthering Heights’ and ‘Jane Eyre’.  It’s possible to visit their old home, the Bronte Parsonage, to view some of their original manuscripts.  And a walk on the moors is also highly recommended.

Scammonden Moor

Scammonden Moor

Stunning image of the moody moorlands in South Yorkshire.  Stage 2 of the 2014 Tour De France Grand Depart passes close to this point, with the cyclists en route to the sprint finish in Sheffield.

Sheep on Barden Moor

Sheep on Barden Moor

As synonymous with Yorkshire as flat caps and Yorkshire puddings!  If you come to the Yorkshire Dales you are sure to spot hundreds of sheep grazing the green and luscious grass.  Still a hugely important part of the local economy, money made from the back of sheep shaped this landscape and contributed to the success of many of the well known towns in the area, including Harrogate.

Where to stay: Percy Lodge
