Images of Yorkshire – John Harrison

John Harrison describes himself as an artist, designer, drummer, Dad & Grandad on his Twitter feed.  It was thanks to this particular social medium that we spotted John’s delightful sketches of Yorkshire, and thought we would share them with you.

You’ll find some iconic Yorkshire locations, including several lovely images of the Yorkshire Coast and City of York.  John also specialises in drawing Yorkshire Cottages and holiday homes, for any owners out there looking for something lovely to feature on your cottage wall.

Whitby to the Abbey

The gorgeous Yorkshire fishing villages of Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and Runswick are captured here, in addition to several images of Whitby.  The Yorkshire Coast is the perfect location for a short break or longer holiday, with so much to see and do.  Enjoy a bracing walk along the pier in Whitby’s harbour before settling down to some Oysters and champagne at one of the town’s excellent restaurants.  Or try fossil hunting on the beach at Robin Hoods Bay or a spot of surfing in Saltburn – the choice is yours..

The York Minster

John’s sketches above feature the iconic Golden Slipper pub in York as well as Low Petergate in the city and of course the York Minster.  York is a compact and very beautiful medieval city which combines historical importance with contemporary attractions.  Gaze in wonder at the York Minster, take a walk down The Shambles or spend an afternoon exploring the city’s many independent shops, cafes and restaurants.  And don’t forget to stop for a Fat Rascal at Betty’s Tearooms

Helmsley - John Harrison

It’s no secret that Helmsley is one of my favourite places and any opportunity to promote this pretty Yorkshire town in the North York Moors is a pleasure.  John’s image above takes in the bubbling beck behind the town square, a particularly well known and much photographed position. Helmsley is a delightful town packed with interesting antique shops and art galleries as well as several very good options for dining.  There’s even a world class Spa here.  What more could you want in life!

Harrogate - John Harrison

Ah, the grand Victorian town of Harrogate.  One of the most desired places to live in England and its clear to see why.  Also home to another branch of Betty’s Tea-rooms as captured by John above.  This Spa town was built on the wool industry, and today is a buzzing cosmopolitan town.  Wonderful for weekend breaks, try not to miss the stylish Montpellier Quarter.
