When Lenwood owners Steve and Alistair were looking to purchase their first holiday cottage, there was only one destination they had in mind – Robin Hoods Bay! They live in nearby Ravenscar and love the fact there is so much to do both in and around Robin Hoods Bay. With a lovely dog-friendly Yorkshire beach and lots of cafes, shops and restaurants, it is the perfect spot for a short break or holiday on the Yorkshire Coast.

Dogs welcome
Robin Hoods Bay is a very dog-friendly place – in fact, there aren’t many places in this seaside village they aren’t allowed. It was important to Stephen and Alistair that Lenwood is as dog-friendly as possible and it was road tested by their own dogs – a whippet and a whippet/Bedlington Terrier cross.
Paw prints from a walk on the beach can be easily wiped off wooden floors and there is a box for dogs with throws, blankets and other things they may need. There are plenty of dog-friendly pubs and cafes in Robin Hoods Bay, so you won’t be short of places to take your pooch.
About 50% of guests come with dogs – the easy clean floors and throws mean there’s no trace of four-legged friends after the stay.
A characterful cottage
Lenwood is a traditional three-storey sandstone cottage and while the property was renovated from top to bottom, there is plenty of character in this coastal cottage. The interiors are cheerful and bright – exactly what you want from a beach retreat.
Original floor tiles in the living rooms, a cosy wood burner, handmade brick tiles in the kitchen, a claw-top bath and Georgian sash windows are amongst the thoughtful touches that add to the character and charm of this holiday cottage in Robin Hoods Bay.
Plenty of space
The quirky nature of traditional cottages in Robin Hoods Bay is all part of the charm. This can mean that space is limited, particularly when it comes to kitchens.
Not so at Lenwood – the kitchen is a lovely bright room which even includes a small table and chairs, and has everything you need to whip up a delicious meal.
There are two double bedrooms, so Lenwood can comfortably sleep up to four people and there is even an additional day bed in the top-floor bedroom so it can sleep an extra child if needed.
Stephen’s favourite room is this gorgeous double bedroom on the top floor. The blues and whites are perfect for the seaside and the window from this airy room has views down to the sea. Beautiful!
Tucked away (with outside space)
Lenwood is tucked away off one of the main streets in Robin Hood's Bay, so you can have some privacy while still being close to the hustle and bustle.
There are lots of shops and cafes to explore in the surrounding streets and you can call in at Muir Lea Stores for a bucket and spade on your way to the beach.
Outside space is at a bit of a premium in Robin Hoods Bay, in fact, it’s like gold dust so it’s especially nice that Lenwood has its own private courtyard with patio furniture where you can sit out and make the most of your spot.
The best of Robin Hood's Bay
There’s a reason why Robin Hood's Bay is such a popular holiday destination – it combines quaint village charm and fabulous beaches with lots of places to eat and drink.
Cafes worth visiting include Tea, Toast and Post which is dog-friendly and located in the former office. There’s a selection of teas to try on the menu and lots of nice sandwiches. It’s worth having a wander around though and trying somewhere new each day.
The dog-friendly beach is gorgeous at any time of year, even in winter, and if you head to nearby Ravenscar you may spot some seals as there are colonies on the beach. Make sure you follow advice though and don’t get too close to them.
The Cinder Track is a popular walk from Robin Hood's Bay to Whitby – it follows the path of a disused rail track and there are stunning views from the viaduct over the Esk Valley. You can also follow the path of the Cleveland Way cliff top path from Robin Hood's Bay to Whitby in one direction or towards Scarborough in the other for stunning views out to sea.
