Luxury Cottage Holidays in the Yorkshire Dales

A cottage holiday in the Yorkshire Dales.

The Yorkshire Dales are perfect for a cottage holiday. From a cottage you can range across the dales, sampling the many sites and returning home for a leisurely dinner, made of course from the local specialities and quality produce you can find in Dales markets and farm shops. A cottage also provides space and facilities in case there is one of those little showers that occasionally appears! You will have more space of yor own than in a hotel, and you will not have to worry about jumping out of bed for breakfast time either!

So apart from swanning around in pyjamas, cooking your favorite lamb casserole or lying on a sofa with a book, what are the other reasons for a cottage holiday in the Yorkshire dales?

What makes the Yorkshire Dales so special.
The Yorkshire Dales cover a huge area of land across northern England; starting just above Leeds stretching right up towards the Pennines to the north, they occupy most of the central belt between York on the East and the Lake District to the West.  Made up of a patchwork of individually named Dales, most of the area is protected by National Park status, helping to preserve its unique beauty from the throng of tourists and walkers drawn here every year.

Providing the backdrop to much of the UK’s favourite TV and film, including The Calendar Girls and All Creatures Great and Small, much of the scenery has a nostalgic and familiar feel.  Strolling amongst the lush pastures of Wensleydale you can just picture James Herriot careering over the hill en route to a distressed sheep.  Based on the real life stories of veterinary surgeon James Alfred Wight, Herriot’s often light hearted screen antics represent what was historically a hugely important profession in these parts.  Many of the towns here, including Harrogate, were built by mill owners made rich, quite literally, on the back of sheep’s precious woollen resource.

Although you’ll still be dodging sheep on t’ road today, their economic importance has dwindled in the face of tourism in these parts.  With its natural good looks on a grandiose scale, its small wonder this area of Yorkshire is one of the most visited locations in the UK, particularly with the walking fraternity.  Part of the enduring appeal here is the surprisingly varied landscape; you’ll find lush green valleys, meandering meadows, dramatic moorlands, magnificent mountains, rocky crags and exquisite wilderness – all peppered with charming villages and cosy pubs welcoming you back to civilisation.  And once you’ve experienced nature Yorkshire Dales style you can retreat back to one of our gorgeous Luxury Cottages in the Yorkshire Dales and relax.
