I have absolutely loved watching the recent Olympics and am starting to have withdrawal symptoms now it is all over. Huge congratulations go to the whole of Team GB who managed a whopping 67 medals (the most since 1908) and the Yorkshire Olympians who achieved 14 of those medals.
Watching some of the interviews with the medallists started me thinking about which of our Gorgeous Cottages would be the ideal choice for some of our local heroes and matching the medal winner to their perfect property. Here’s what I’ve come up with:
Jessica Ennis-Hill – The School House Sandsend
On top of being an Olympic medal winning athlete (adding a silver medal at this games to the gold won in London 4 years ago), Jessica Ennis-Hill is the young mum to an energetic toddler so where better for a family friendly holiday than a few days at the coast?
We recommend The School House, which is just a few miles from Whitby in the charming coastal village of Sandsend. The cottage itself has a large enclosed garden and is just metres from the sandy beach so perfect for children to burn off some energy.
Inside there’s plenty of place to chill out after the hard work of Rio with double house living space plus cosy corners with comfortable sofas and a wood-burning fire.
The Brownlee Brothers – Stepping Stones Barn
Alistair and Jonny Brownlee were way ahead of the rest of the Triathlon field in Rio thanks to their intensive training in their beloved Yorkshire Dales so we think Stepping Stones Barn near Settle is ideally located for some scenic walks, runs and bike rides throughout Ribblesdale.
The cottage is in easy reach of the challenging Three Peaks and has lockable storage to keep their bikes safe. There is a large garden with a patio and BBQ to enjoy after a tiring training session and if the brothers do fancy a day off (everyone has to rest sometimes) they can head to the charming bars and cafes in Settle Market Square.
Chris Mears and Jack Laugher – The Stables and The Hay Barn
I get the feeling that Chris Mears and Jack Laugher will be celebrating their historic diving gold medal for some time to come and we have the perfect place for them to kick-back and relax with family and friends.
The Stables and The Hay Barn are part of the same estate near Hovingham and together sleep up to 12 people within 6 bedrooms. The properties feature hot tubs, a games room with a pool table, plus a fantastic leisure suite with sauna, mini-gym and relaxation areas. It’s just down the road from Malton and Helmsley so plenty of delicious food to indulge in after their strict diet prior to Rio.
Jack and Chris would also be following in the footsteps of a fellow Olympian. Rebecca Adlington stayed at The Hay Barn just after the 2012 Olympics!
