- Cosy little place for a couple. Good base for exploring the area, bus stop across the road takes you to York in 20 min. Would return if looking to stay in the area again in the future.

Welcome to Birch Tree Retreat, a cosy 1-bedroom hideaway set in a very pretty village just 10 miles from central York. The compact but well apportioned accommodation feels like a stylish hotel suite, with its bijou contemporary interiors, state-of-the-art technology and little extra luxuries. Oh, and there's an excellent foodie pub in the village just a short stroll away. The perfect town & country pad!
All of the accommodation in Birch Tree Retreat is set on the first floor. Make your way upstairs to discover the welcoming open-plan living space home to the lounge, kitchen and dining area. The window here affords lovely views out across the village.
The lounge has a comfy sofa where you can settle down to catch a movie on the SMART TV. The TV also comes complete with Netflix & a DVD player so you can indulge in your favourite box set each evening. Fast speed fibre Wi-Fi is provided. If you feel like coming off line, there are magazines ready and waiting for you to delve into.
The kitchen sits opposite and makes great use of the space. You'll find a fan oven/grill with an electric touch control hob, a microwave, fridge with freezer drawer and the usual small appliances. Everything you need to rustle up a romantic meal for two.
The chunky wooden dining table sits beside the kitchen and offers plenty of room to settle down for eats. A Bluetooth soundbar allows you to choose your own background music while you dine. Afterwards make use of the tablet which provides lots of useful info and recommendations on what to see and do in the local area.
Birch Tree Retreat sleeps 2 very comfortably in its elegant bedroom. The double bed boasts a very comfortable 3000-pocket sprung memory mattress and reading lights above mean you can drift off to sleep easily when you're ready. The sofa also doubles as a bed allowing you to accommodate an extra adult or 2 young children if required. A luxury mattress topper and good quality bedding ensure a good night's sleep. Please note if you will be using the sofa as a bed during your stay please confirm this at the point of booking.
The shower-room sits next door. It has a contemporary and luxurious feel with its chic grey and aubergine colour scheme, heated towel rail, shaver socket and large walk in shower. Enjoy the complimentary Noble Isle toiletries and fluffy bath robes provided for your comfort.
Birch Tree Retreat has a small patio by the front door which includes a patio table and chairs. Please note Birch Tree Retreat is set adjacent to Birch House.
For keen cyclists and walkers, there is a tiled entry with boot bench and coat stand so you can strip off the muddy and wet overclothes and leave them there to dry. Please note there isn't a washing machine at the property, however a local laundry offers a collection and delivery service to the property on Monday and Friday.
Birch Tree Retreat is set in a charming little North Yorkshire village just 8 miles North of York. Perfectly positioned to visit the very best of North Yorkshire, Birch House sits in an area called the Hambleton Hills. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1987, this land of lush pastures and woodlands plays host to grand country houses, atmospheric ruins and handsome market towns.
The village itself is a charming little place, very typical of this area of Yorkshire. Just a short stroll away you'll find a super little village pub serving up top quality pub food. Perfect if you don't want to get in the car for dinner. There's also a little village tearooms which opens in the summer & a Gin Distillery which offers gin tasting open days at the weekend. The village is also home to an authentic Italian restaurant. Families will enjoy the very pleasant walk through the village to the playing fields and playground, coming back through the woods.
Nearby you'll find the equally delightful village of Sherriff Hutton which offers two pubs, a local store, an excellent wine shop and a delightful upmarket Deli/Cafe called Quarmby's, perfect for a spot of lunch. There's also an award-winning Lavender farm, with its deer and sculpture park, tearoom and gift shop it's a great day out for all ages. And Castle Howard is just a few miles away, a must during your stay.
There are some lovely walks nearby and some serious hiking in the North York Moors National Park just a short drive away. The beautiful market town of Helmsley is within easy reach and is well worth a visit. If you fancy a little pampering you'll find the Verbena Spa here; perfect for a little me time indulgence! There are also several Michelin-starred restaurants close by including the famous Black Swan at Oldstead, recently named the best restaurant in the world!
Birch House is just 15 minutes' drive from central York, a must-see destination on any holiday to this area. There is a bus stop just beside the house where you can hop on a direct bus to York every hour. This stunning medieval city is packed with independent shops, cafes and restaurants and offers some of the best sightseeing in the country. Marvel at York Minster, mooch around the cobbled streets, take a walk around the historic city walls or enjoy a drink at one of the bars by the river. Its compact enough to see in a day, but you'll want to go back time and time again.
You're also close to Castle Howard and the Yorkshire coast, so lots of choice for day trips.
