About Dove Cottage
Welcome to Dove Cottage, a charming 3-storey traditional cottage set in the pretty market town of Pickering. This lovely little cottage is perfect for couples and small families who enjoy town and country life, with lots of cafes and restaurants on your doorstep and the stunning North York Moors National Park just a few miles away...
Dove Cottage is set within a terraced row just a few minutes' walk from Pickering town centre. It is Grade II listed and retains much of its historic charm, with beamed ceilings and original features throughout giving it a cosy authentic feel.
Step inside to discover a good-sized lounge featuring a beautiful inglenook fireplace and wood-burner. There's a comfy sofa to curl up on and two easy chairs you can pull up to the fire each evening. Pop open a bottle of red, unwind and catch up with your loved ones. For your evening entertainment there's a TV with Freeview, a DVD Player and MP3 docking station. Wi-Fi is also provided if you want to catch up online.
Make your way through to the rear of the cottage to find the kitchen / dining room. This is a lovely bright space with an open tread staircase leading upstairs. The kitchen has cream shaker-style units, a white porcelain sink, gas hob, microwave and electric oven. There is also a washer / dryer and freezer across the courtyard to the rear of the cottage. The dining table seats up to 4 and offers a pleasant space to enjoy dining together. Pick up some Yorkshire produce from one of the local shops in Pickering and settle down to a holiday feast.
Both bedrooms in Dove Cottage are upstairs. The gorgeous master bedroom is on the first floor and offers generous proportions, a King-size bed, cast iron fireplace, original wooden floorboards, beams overhead and a charming window seat to watch village life go by. The house bathroom is next door. There's a bath with a shower overhead, perfect if you fancy a long hot soak each evening.
Head up to the top floor to discover the second bedroom. Another spacious room with wooden floorboards, this time offering twin beds which can also be configured as a super-king if requested. The comfy chair up here also converts to a single sofa bed should you need it.
Please contact the owner directly to confirm how you would like the beds to be configured if different from standard set up.
Outside the cottage you'll find a small courtyard with patio furniture offering a sheltered space for al fresco dining. It's also a nice spot to take your morning coffee in the warmer months, easing yourself into the day over the daily papers.
Dove Cottage has a fantastic location in the heart of Pickering, a beautiful North York Moors market town. Grand Georgian architecture stands alongside cosy traditional cottages to create a picture postcard setting. There are several excellent restaurants, pubs and cafes in the town, all within a stone's throw from the cottage.
The wonderful North York Moors Railway starts in Pickering (the station itself is just a few hundred yards away) where you can catch a steam train to Whitby and back again through some of the most picturesque countryside in Yorkshire.
Beyond the town lies Dalby Forest and the amazing North York Moors, a landscape of gentle rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. If you want to get away from it all take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands. Also a great option if walking is your thing. For families the lure of Flamingo Land may be difficult to resist with its high octane rides and wild animals and Go Ape and Dalby cycling trails are a short distance away.
In addition to Pickering there are many well-heeled towns and villages dotted about the Moors, where honey-coloured sandstone buildings lend warm contrast to the deep purple and green of the surrounding hills. The beautiful market town of Helmsley is close by and is well worth a visit. If you fancy a little pampering you'll find a fantastic day Spa here; the Verbena Spa. Perfect for a little me time indulgence!
You're also close to Castle Howard, York, Scarborough and the North Yorkshire coast with the RSPB nature reserve at Bempton, for keen sea bird watchers. So lots of choice for day trips
