Welcome to End'n, a contemporary and luxurious 2-bedroom holiday cottage set in one of the Yorkshire Dales' prettiest small towns. With its eclectic stylish interiors, beautiful countryside views and central location to Middleham's cafes, pubs and restaurants, this is the perfect retreat for couples who enjoy a spot of town and country living.
Well known for being the home of Yorkshire horse-racing, Middleham is a picture-postcard little town set around a Georgian market square in the heart of Wensleydale. You'll find End'n (Yorkshire for 'The End One' in case you're wondering!) at the bottom of a handsome stone terrace tucked behind the market square.
Step inside to discover quirky and contemporary interiors with a subtle nod to the lively style of the 50s and 60s. Access to the cottage is to the rear where you'll find a spacious and pleasant kitchen/diner. All the usual mod-cons are provided including a dish-washer, oven, hob and washing machine/dryer. Dinner is served on the retro glass table with its collection of modern seating. A Bluetooth speaker allows you to provide your own background music. Grab some yummy local produce from Campbells in Leyburn and sit down to a romantic meal for two - a bottle of something good and the soft glow of the candelabra optional?
Make your way through to the lounge, a generous room with a cosy wood-burning stove at its heart. Take your pick from the comfy leather sofa, classic armchairs or striking lime green easy chair to flop down on. High ceilings and panelled walls give this room an elegant and period feel. Entertainment is provided in the form of a TV with DVD player. Wi-Fi is also available. With the fire roaring it's a delicious room to just settle down and catch up for the evening.
Both bedrooms in End'n are upstairs. The Master bedroom is set to the rear of the house and enjoys uninterrupted views of the glorious Wensleydale countryside. Stretch out on the king-size bed and enjoy a spot of morning telly in your PJs. The second bedroom sits at the front and offers another king-size bed. A further TV and DVD player provide extra entertainment in this room. Both beds are dressed in the finest Egyptian cotton bedding. Please note as with many older properties, the stair-case in the cottage is quite steep and so the property is not suitable for anyone with mobility restrictions.
Next door you'll find a lovely bright shower room complete with a large walk-in shower and marble topped unit. The perfect place to get ready for a day's sight-seeing in the Dales or dinner at one of the local gastro pubs.
Outside the cottage is a charming courtyard garden with fabulous views taking advantage of the elevated position. Dine al fresco around the smart Terrazzo table with a water feature providing the background sound. A sail canopy overhead during the summer months ensures you are comfortable in the midday sun and mood lighting keeps it nice and cosy when the sun begins to dip. A BBQ is provided for those balmy summer evenings.
There is also off-road parking for 2 cars, something of a rarity in Middleham.
End'n welcomes children over 12 years old.
End'n is set just behind the market square in Middleham Wensleydale, one of Yorkshire's loveliest towns. Famous for its castle (once home to Richard III) it's also home to several race-horse trainers; you will see and hear the horses being lead through the village up to the gallops every day. And to top it off there is a lovely collection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. We love it so much it features in our Top 10 Prettiest Yorkshire Villages - the perfect location for a holiday cottage!
Near the cottage is a charming tearooms if you fancy a treat at elevenses, and for dinner you can opt for pub grub at the Richard III traditional pub or perhaps some Italian food at the renowned White Swan. You can order a take-out pizza from here too. There's also a village store and a couple of bric-a-brac shops to mooch around. Just a few miles out of the village is the fantastic attraction The Forbidden Corner. Regularly voted the best family attraction in Yorkshire, it's also well worth a look even if there are no children in your party.
In the opposite direction you'll find the charming market town of Leyburn. Leyburn is an archetypical slice of Dales market town life. You'll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square, which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain. The nearby historic town of Richmond is similar in many ways, and has a lovely setting along the River Swale.
There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range of End'n. Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are just a few miles away and the gorgeous villages of West Burton and Askrigg are within easy driving distance, so lots of choice for things to do if you want to get out and about. If walking is your thing, the Yorkshire Dales are something of a walker's paradise. And there are plenty of options for cycling too in Tour De France country. Our concierge will be more than happy to recommend some walks and cycle routes for you if required.
And when you need to refuel stop at one of the areas many excellent gastro pubs. Our favourites include the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton and the Blue Lion at East Witton, all within a short drive of the cottage.
